Samsung Galaxy Tablet 2 7.0 Installed in NaviHood - Completed!

Secondly.. to all those that may be adverse to cutting the hole in the side of the navi hood because the samsung charger does not fit...word of advice.... DON'T!
There is no need to have the wire come out the side as i found out AFTER i cut the hole to suit.
The Samsung plug is bulked up with plastic. If you remove this cover from the samsung charge plug (carefully break it away) you can pass the wire back at 90 degrees and it fits in snugly.
Atleast i now have a ventilation hole..hmm

I removed the plastic but didn't want to bend the wire so sharply. If you cut it right you will never see it once installed into the car. I'll snap a pic of mine next time I go somewhere.

Oh and I pulled it apart and drilled a hole down into the air vent below, routed a tube from the vent into the housing to try to aid in cooling, and...... No dice. Still overheats all the time and won't charge...
I'm going to try a much larger hole next time I guess.

Does anyone know if you could fit the new nexus 7 2 in the factory nag housing without cutting the sides? The new nexus 7 is 7.9 inches across while the tab 2 is 7.6 inches across. I know people have fit the first nexus 7 in the nav housing but even that is only 7.8 inches.
So does anyone know if the housing will accommodate the wider nexus 7 2 without major cutting?

I think a lot of it has to do with me parking out side, if I use the sunscreen it is far less likely to over heat but without it, anything about 85 it's probably going to stop charging and get angry.

I have a question regarding the Samsung Tab 2 7.0.
Is it possible to input video into the Tab 2?
Why you ask, ok, at the moment I have a HKS Camp 2 inputing into a lilliput screen that is mounted in the factory Nav hood.
I know its possible to use a bluetooth OBD2 reader in conjunction with the Tab 2 and that it will read all the OBD2 info that is currently being read by my HKS Camp 2.
The reason I would like to keep my HKS Camp 2 is that I'm also using it to read other external items that aren't on the OBD2.
So what I'm trying to acheive is having the Samsung tab 2 read all the OBD2 info and the HKS Camp 2 read the external items, but instead of having to run an extra video screen for the Camp 2, I thought if it was possible to input video into the Tab 2, then I could mount the Tab 2 in the factory Nav hood and only have one screen.
I have tried to find a place to mount the Tab 2 external of the Nav hood, but there doesn't seem to be a good place to mount it and make it look good/factory like.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, you will not find any proper video input built into a tablet. Most you can do is buy some kind of video input car and do that into the USB port.

I don't plan to use both at the same time necessarily, I just don't really want to have two screens.
Or maybe I will have to find a head unit that has video input and run the Hks camp 2 into that and use the Nav hood to house the Tab 2 in.
Is the Tab 2 not capable of video input through the usb input?, as well as being able to charge it at the same time?
Thanks

In regards to video input into the Tab. Android does support USB Hosting and there are ways to do some USB Hosting & Charging. You can usually buy a cable splitter or split the USB cable yourself to tap into the charging cord and split it that way.
Some android devices have this turned off, so you might have to root your device and get a custom ROM that will let you do this option.

I use to use a app called "Awesome On/Off", it would turn the screen off when the tablet flipped down, and turn the screen on when it flipped up. It stopped working after updating the tablet.
I've seen a few apps but they all use the prox. sensor and mine is blocked. I need one that uses the tilt sensor.

For whatever reason I just NOW stumbled onto this thread. What a great idea!
Now, if I'm seeing this correctly, you guys have your tablets wired into the car's radio through an AUX input?
The only reason I ask is my '04 GT didn't have the NAV option installed and I was just going to buy a Grom USB adapter and load all my music on a USB memory stick and play them through the car's factory head unit and still be able to use the steering wheels controls.
Since the adapter alone is over $100, I figure why not spend a little more and have so many more options with the tablet. You'd have Bluetooth, Navigation (which my car doesn't have) and you'd have a crap-ton of storage for songs

I am working on an Android Launcher (homepage) that will be built for cars specifically. This will also have features like being able to keep steering wheel controls (via bluetooth OBDII dongle), allow streaming from phones or other bluetooth devices to the tablet itself (or whatever server you want) - the streaming thing might be a standalone thing as well, but we will see.
This is just a few ideas I have in store right now, so we shall see how this turns out. It is a bit harder than I thought it would be, since a Launcher is basically like the whole OS, while an app is an app.

That will run through the OBDII as well. There is Torque (which is free) that does it already, but I feel is a bit slow. Have not tried the paid version, which could increase speeds.
So I might not write the whole thing, though since I am reading the steering wheel values from the OBDII meter anyways, I had ideas of taking important things and building them into widgets as well, as it would not be that hard to do to make a little gauge thing. So yes, this is a bit of a lower priority since there is a product out there currently, but there were ideas of it from the beginning.

That could very well be the case, as mine was the cheapest OBDII on amazon pretty much. Once I start getting into the bluetooth stuff, I will purchase a proper one.
