30 seconds isn't bad at all...or 35 for that matter

Regarding hibernation...hibernation takes no power...the computer actually turns totally off and you can even remove the standby rail. Are you referring to standby?

This is where the flash drive comes in. I'm running a modified version of XP home right now on my laptop that was about 380 megs when I got it and I've built it up to around 800 megs with all the services I need. Put that in the car PC and install it on a 2 gig HIGH speed flash card (under $40 for the card) and then use a high speed PCI/pcmcia cardreader to maximize performance.

Now install 1.5 gigs of ram to be safe....this way when you go into hibernation the OS services in use/in ram get dumped to the flash card as a specialized page file designed for hibernation. Eventhough you'll only use maybe 400megs of hibernation for windows most likely less you can leave another gig or more for your programs (overkill but whatever).

Then as others have said use a standard ata style hard drive (solid state really not needed) the size of your liking. This is critical: MOUNT PERPENDICULARLY...this way when the hard drive is bouncing around on the round the head doesn't bounce on the platter...instead the worst it can do is the head can get accidently knocked in the parked mode. I have a 400gig HD in my Xbox with 15K miles and not a hiccup yet....meanwhile my friend's xbox was just in the car traveling between his work and home (not even running) bu sitting flat and the hard drive was destroyed in a couple months.

I tested hibernation with a full installation (no mods/uninstalls) and it takes about 1min to boot up.
Anyway regarding the boot time for is better not to wait instead of wait either 30sec or 2 minutes.
On the other hand i believe that having the computer starting remotely (from my remote control) is too cool

I liked your idea very much. My next experiment with the carputer though it will be modify the stock navigation controls to use them as mouse and programmable buttons

I think it would be really nice and COOL :P to have mouse and extra programmable buttons on my "thumb"

I like very much the idea with the hybernation trick. It should me implemented on a later stage. I feel that i will spend a fortune on this hobby (carputing) nevermind is worth it!

thanks truemagellen actually yes, I was reffering to standby, I think there is a small power consumption. for example the computer fan is spinning isn't it the same thing with hybernation? sorry if its a stupid question, but I'm just an amateur with computer and software modifications... that's why I get the idea about the flashdrive but not fully understand how to do it lol
'perpendicularly' you mean vertically?

anyway, today i will do the first experiment withit.

I will give an update tomorrow.

Thought it as well but i believe the navi buttons will give a more clear setup. and it has more buttons that could be prgrammed.

Finally i did cut those 4mm and now i have 100% view of the monitor. I used a knife and "tons" of sand paper hard and soft as well :P
So 4mm is what I am missing huh? Darn, I bought my Nav Housing from Rotorgeek, and he followed the Greek fella's web page on how to install it into the housing...it looked like a total pain in the butt, so I am glad he did it (nice job BTW).
It has been a pain in the butt to get the windows screen shrunk down, as I bought a FX5200 video card which needed a 90 deg riser, then using the Nvdia software, I was able to run at 800X480 shrunk and moved down to be visible...kind of a waste to run 800x480 at this point when I am shrinking it down digitally! But at least I have much better video accerlation (and PureVideo DVD playback) than the EPIA MII onboard video...

Gonna get a Yellowtop Optima battery and call it a day. SO far I only am doing full shut down. Got so many USB devices, I am not sure it is even worth playing with.

Hey guys,

I have to get all the cables (4x USBs, 1x VGA, 2xAUDIO, 1x RCA) where should all these should go through to end up in th trunk?

My first thought was the centre console but it seems that there are some obstacles there.
Any ideas?

Thanks!
