Shallow Mount Sub

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has tried installing Pioneer's new shallow mount sub. Supposedly, it's only 3 inches deep so you would be able to mount it in the trunk tray. I just wanted to know if anyone has heard how it sounds

the idea has been tossed around.. I've never heard one or know anyone that has... but the problem I have with it is that if you put anything in the trunk you need to have some ridiculous protection for it, and you can't use it if anything is in the trunk... or just not put anything in the trunk.. and it seems to be that if your going to give the entire trunk to a system you might as well make it good, you know?

stick to the Zenclosures box on ebay or the 4080 box on this forum..

Why would you have to give up the entire trunk? i believe what he is saying is to mount it in the indent in the trunk (probably with some sort of custom sealed box) I would assume it would be covered by a grill for protection. Why would you be giving up the trunk? I have a box i made similar to the Zenclosures box (I made it myself before they started making them for the 8) in my trunk and i can still put stuff in my trunk, why wouldn't you be able to if the box is on the floor in the indent? The only reason i am asking so many questions is because i plan to put one of the new JL TW5 thin-line subs in there when they come out later this year.

I have the 10inch pioneer shallow mount sub and it sounds great! I've got box that is made especilly for it and it fits perfectly in both the trunk indent and in the space between the rear seats and the indent (which is where i mounted it). PM me your email and I can send you some pics if you like.

The JL slimline will be all things JL - great sound at a price. You'll never hear me knock a JL woofer because they are good woofers but I don't think their prices are justified. IMO.

Now this on the other hand should be a good compromise...

I've had many Elemental Designs woofers in the past and think they do very well. There is very little that I have found that comes close to comparing in their price range or even double.

Has any one tried to get the 8" shallow to fix under the seat I Really want a clean install and its pretty small 11.75"Lx9.25Wx5.75H" any have any idea what the size is under our seats as it seems that it maybe tight fit but would sound very good in the 8.

Just checked out ED's website. Seems like they would be the perfect option for a hidden install. Maybe even as a space savin alternative to trunk subs.

Anybody know if these will fit in the 8's rear speaker space?
