Shallow subwoofer plexiglassed into trunk indent?

OK

I have gone through 4 pages of electronics and not found this question asked.

Has anyone plexi-glassed a shallow twelve inch subwoofer (Pioneer is what I am looking at) inside the indent in the trunk space? I want more bass for my Bose system but I don't want to sacrifice too much trunk room.

Any thoughts on the location?

Here is a link to the speaker I am looking at. Are there better flat speakers out there? I know very little about audio.

And if you were going to pay someone to do it - what do you think is reasonable? (And yeah, I know some of you won't let anyone else touch your car. I'm not quite that paranoid...yet.)

Thanks for your time.

I just bought an 8 and love it.

I have never thought about that.. but ... I don't like it. You would have to put something REALLY strong over it so you could put stuff in your trunk... If trunk space is what your worried about your going to be ALOT better off with a good sub in the 4080 box..

my - $0.02

oh yeah and the cost of putting plexi and with the install is gonna cost way more than it's worth.

I think WikkedOne is absolutely right. The only feasible options for maintaining trunk space are bazooka tube, basslink, 4080 box(es), or a sub in the passthrough. The latter two are the coolest and allow for more powerful subwoofers, but are also much more expensive. If money wasn't an issue I'd go with one of those two. I think the sub in the passthrough is a great idea and takes up virtually no trunk room, but is subject to theft and I don't know about the sounds quality and vibrations, but more than a few forum members have done it and are very please. Also, a 4080 box (or two) is great. It only takes up the right and left hand corners which are awkwardly shaped anyway, so I rarely pack anything in there other than groceries. If you have golf clubs, however, the 4080 is out of the question. There are a lot of threads about the basslinks and bazooka tubes. Check em out. Just make sure you carefully weigh your options so you won't regret your decision.

Oh yeah, search for custom sub box, or some variation there of; one of the members here made a fiberglass box partially using the indented area, if you haven't seen that yet, I think it is similar to what you are suggesting and may give you some insight.

I appreciate the replies.

The 4080 boxes sound really cool. What do they usually run? I found some pics on the site of them but no prices.

I think that might be the direction to go. I prefer bass over golf.

And I think WikkedOne is right too that I would be paying more for plexiglass installation than any component I would be adding.

I'll look into what basslinks are now.

Thnx

slllygrl10 is selling a 4080 box in the "for sale" forum right now for $260 (plus shipping). That's a good price.

If you buy from 4080 directly, the boxes are $299 shipped, carpeted w/ a grill.
I have one and I'm running a JL Audio 10W6v2 with a JL 500/1 amp.
It's more than enough bass for me.

I've emailed and pmed 4080 but so far no reply.

I think a left and right 4080 box might be just what I want.

If anyones got any I'm in the market.
