Sirius in Ashtray

After searching for a while, I found a couple of threads were of few guys with Satellite radios put their radio in the ashtray to make it at least look more flush.

I took of the ashtray cover and ran the wires from behind. But that spaces on the side bother me.

I decided to try and make something to cover up the gaps on the side. Ended up using a dvd box and cut it up. 3 Boxes were sacrificed for this. I just cant get it to fit properly though.

So i decided to take a different approach and add something to the cover to make it look less rough so far this is what i have. So far I am still not happy. If any knows were i can get something custom made or another option please let me know!

I took it off with the idea of trying to make it look more factory but so far it has not worked out too great. Yea altspace's looks great his set up is what motivated me to try to achive somethign similar. I think my sirius unit is too big to cut out the ash tray cover.

Maybe drill a hole on the cover for the wires and use the 3m double sided white tape to stick the unit on that?? But that goes away from trying to make it look flush...

I created my pod out of fiberglass. The ashtray was removed.

That is the dock. So unfortunately is not an option to take off. I went to a local audio place and asked for a quote for a set up like altspace they quoted me $400....

So i am going to keep trying on my own. Now I am thinking maybe of taking out the whole ashtray and making a box that would fit into it somehow, put the sirius unit in that and wrap the box in some sort of black leather/pleather material to try to match the leather seats and stuff

You could always get a different receiver that does not use that style dock.

You could always disassemble the dock down to just the connectors that the receiver sits on. Stick them in the receiver and secure them in. Since you're going for a more permanent mount anyway.

You could always return the receiver altogether and buy the factory Sirius system....(because I know that particular receiver is over two bills anyway)
