SkyFi2 satellite receiver...Power Options???
I've recently tried splicing into the cigarette light adaptor and it worked like a charm {yellow (+), black (-)}. This was prior to having my amp and sub hooked up. FYI - I spliced my remote turn-on wire from my amp to the 12V adaptor between the seats. I don't know if because I tapped into that my XM receiver does not power anymore....
I did check my cigarette fuse and it was fine...
What I'm thinking is that I either shorted the cig adaptor or the receiver (which I hope I didn't....)
Anybody else run into this problem? What other powering alternatives do I have? I want to hard-wire the power for my XM Receiver...
Help would be very much appreciated.... Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm fairly new to satellite radio installs, but could you please explain to me what you refer to as the "ground" for the XM receiver?
I have the Skyfi2 by Delphi and I'm trying to power it by cutting the cigaretter adaptor wiring and either sodering or splicing (using vampire clips) similar to what Modena did (https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=skyfi2). I did do it this way, and it did work, but somewhere somehow, the skyfi2 receiver doesn't even turn on anymore??? I sure hope I didn't fry it.

The two wires that you attached to the cigar lighter. I would check both of them to make sure one didn't come loose. I am guessing you cut the cig adapter that came with the Skyfi already. If you by chance didn't, then you could use it to see if the Skyfi has power

Yes, I did check the wiring and the wiring did seem in tact (those vampire clips sure can be tough to take off). Went to Best Buy and they tried powering it up using their XM display and my receiver wouldn't turn on at all. They just exchanged my receiver and cradle. However, I didn't get the cig adaptor (dammit!). So now, I'm trying to figure out which of the two wires is (+) and which one is (-) so I can attempt to re-soder the adaptor together. Is there any way to tell which one is what? I have no clue since each wire insulation is black...

I just got XM about a month ago and the install was pretty easy.
For power, I spliced into the cigarette lighter wiring and everything works great. None of the power loss problems that rx8playa is experiencing - but my system is totally stock aside from the XM.
For audio, I'm just using the FM transmitter right now, but I'm on the waitlist for Overload's AuxMod which will let me tap right into the "Tape" function of our head unit. The FM transmitter actually works really well as long as you place the satellite antenna close to the rear window (where our FM antenna is located). Even in areas where there is overlap it just comes across as a little bit of static.
The antenna install was the most tedious part the install. I centered the magnetic antenna right above the rear window and used small needle-nose pliers to pull the rubber seal out of the way to push the antenna wire in. Just be careful because its easy to pull too hard and tear the seal (trust me, I did it twice). I ran the wire through the window seal all the way down to the trunk, through the passthrough, and underneath the center console all the way to the front.
It looks pretty clean, and I'm really happy now that I dont have to constantly change stations anymore during my daily commute. I'll try to get some pics and post them soon.
