Question sound cuts out w/ CD player @ 24+ vol?

Ive searched and searched and cant hardly believe im the only one wiht this prob, but here goes.. Ive had my '04 for about 5 months w/o any probs with the head unit, then just the other day, i was listening to a CD and pushed the vol to 24/25 notches, and all sound is muted, including the BEEP from vol up/down, mute, steering buttons. If i turn the car off, then back on, or if the engine isnt running, just remove/insert the key, it picks back up (powering off and on via the big vol button does nothing). It will go for a few seconds at 24+ vol, but then zap just stops, the head unit functions fine, there is just no sound. All the steering and HU buttons work, just no sound, not even the beep. Any ideas? Its still under warranty so im taking it to get it looked at (wonder if they will give me a new HU?). I dont have ANY aftermarket Eq. hooked up to it, or ever has. If I change the ALC setting to 1-2-3 the sound quits at a (respective) lower volume level (18-24). It does NOT do it in FM/AM mode, just when on the CD player. Kept below 24 on ALC OFF, it works great. ?? Thanks for any feedback.

Sounds like a problem with the amplifier or ALC circuitry (no pun intended)... probably needs a head unit replacement.
