Stock radio vs Bose system?

Does anyone know the difference between the stock radio and the Bose system?

Is there a big difference in sound?

I have a Mazda 626 and the stock radio is very good.

I believe it has 9 speakers vs. 6 (correct me if I am wrong) and some various other goodies that I can't think of off the top of my head.

don't be so hasty zio that has been disputed several times and boowanna just said yesterday that the bose would have them 6 changer no matter what customer relations was saying. many options/accessories are still a bit up in the air and mazda has said there will be an announcement sometime in march.

Stock vs. Bose

The Bose system in the Miata is good. Most Bose systems in other cars I've driven have been good with the remarkable exception of the 350Z which was incredibly boomy (low mid-range, not real bass). Of course the old salt about Bose speakers is, "No highs, no lows, must be Bose"

Yes, but then he later retracted that statement. Check it out.

I thought he was saying that it wasn't available on the standard stereo, but would be in the 9-speaker version...

Hey boowana, what, exactly, were you retracting? Some of us are kinda confused!!

He said not in the standard Bose system. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the Bose was only on the Touring+ (9-spkr) models. I figured the Sport and base models had Mazda's proprietary head. Of course, his use of the word standard with the word Bose is confusing...

I believe he said that the 6-CD changer is not standard on the "standard Bose". The "standard Bose" is the optional sound system on the RX-8. Therefore, the 6-CD changer is an accessory to the optional Bose sound system.

Have I confused you all?

Simply, the 6-CD changer will cost extra even if you have the Bose sound system.

BOSE is the speaker system only. The radio, CD, tape option can be put on afterwards but are not linked.

The BOSE in the Audi TT, as for the RX8, was specially commisioned and sounds very good. Extra bass has been introduced. However, it is a specific sound and not loved by everyone but superior to the standard set-up.

Bose system specs - from Bose

First the system in the RX-8 (Bose) was customized specifically for the car. From their spec sheet "An acoustic blueprint was created and used to engineer the music system specifically for the acoustics of the RX-8." then the go on to describe the wonderful qualities, like balanced L/R, front/back, sounds larger than cabin, more like live performance, etc. It has an "AutoPilot" noise compensation technology. This adjusts specific parts of the music needed to compensate for the particular source of noise - whether open window, road traffic, rain patter - speed is not an specific factor. A microphone "listens" to the music AND unwanted noise - it is located next to the steering column.
Has an active equalization circuitry. 9" Nd (neodymium iron boron magnet apparently) woofer [slimmer & lighter to fit in RX-8's doors, patented] in each door; 3" Nd centerfill speaker in center of instrument panel; 2" Nd mid/high-range speaker ea front door; two 2" mid/high-range speakers mounted with two 6"x9" woofers on rear deck; digital amplifier w/5 channels of custom equal.

I am new to this forum, please forgive me for me anticipated ignorance. Does the stock stereo in the Mazda RX-8 come with a CD Player? I understand that it doesn't come with the 6 CD changer.

yes, it comes w/ a CD player. We've just been trying to figure out if the US models get a 6CD in-dash changer or not like Canada, Europe, and I think Japan are getting mostly as standard. Road and Track's recent (April issue) report stated it had a 6CD changer, but they were testing a pre-production , hand-made model which had a conglomeration of options which apparently didn't represent one specific option package available here. Watch for updates!

Having ordered the Sport Package, I too was concerned about whether or not the standard radio had at least a single CD player, which is more than enough for me. If the Bose system didn't require the Moonroof in the Touring package, I may have gone ahead an got it with the Bose, but I didn't want the moonroof as well.

Besides, difficulties or not, there is always the aftermarket if I decide to go for a better sound system. Then again, I'm not really a big "audiophile". I'm more of a "power / performance monger"....
