Stock stereo system = no bass???

I dont have the Bose system just the regular stock system so this came as a big surprise to me. I was going through the radio and an overplayed rock song was on so I switched to a hiphop station and a song I recognized was playing that has lots of bass in the beat. When I heard the song I was wondering if this was a different version cause I didnt here the deep bung bung bung sounds coming from my speakers. I turn the volume all the way up and I still could barely hear any deep bass in my car! I dont know maybe something is wrong. I am thinking my stock radio system has almost no bass at all!! I set the bass level to 6 also so I dont know why I didnt even hear any vibration from the speakers. I know there are lots of stock radio systems that are poor and dont have much pounding sound on the speakers when songs with lots of bass play. I cant believe the Rx8 is one of them. Is this the same for you guys too or maybe something is wrong with mine? I listen to rock music mostly just alternative and I try to avoid listeningto "c"rap or hiphop music so I never really cared or noticed that muchabout how the missing bass is in my car. The treble is pretty good and thats allI really care since I really only like rock but I also like Linkin Park somewhat so its nice to have some loud bass sometimes too. All the other cars Ive been in before with stock systems have always had an ok amountof vibration and knock on the speakers during high bass songs so I am surprised here. Wow I guess this is going to be one of the first car stereos that may really need subwoofers badly.

Well I'll be in the same boat whenever mine gets in... I didn't want a sunroof or a half-assed Bose upgrade so I plan on upgrading thouroughly once I get it in.

i have the Bose and there is very little deep bass...it's all mids...the highs are OK for me, but WAY too much mids...still it's better than most stock stereos although this is perhaps the one thing i would remove from the GT package if i had the chance...well that and the buttwarmers...the leather and sunroof were a must

I used my buttwarmer this morning.... I instantly became a rather big fan of the buttwarmer and its companion the lowerbackwarmer :o

mikeb's signature says it all..."friends don't let friends drive stock"...that applies to audio equipment as well..face it guys...Bose is NAME you pay for it's image it had when it first hit mainstream market...they are one of those companies that lures people into their product line with a fantastic first impression upon entering the market and then...in Emiril's words.."BAM!"...they cut cost by cutting out quality over a few years and somehow sucker people in as their "repeat customers"....I myself like rotary have been in the car stereo, as well as home audio/theater business for over 12 years now and have had many winners including my own ricer at one point in time, (yes i was a ricer 92' Acura Integra GSR)...but anyway I never have and never will endorse a Bose product...I am ripping mine out aas soon as my CAD drawings are finalized for my boxes and I configure my shop for "casting" ...again...man it's been a while...

later fellas./.

Try a CD...Radio sound quality sucks. My BOSE system hits fairly decent for stock. A nice aftermarket setup would crush it naturally but I would say this is the best "stock" stereo I have ever owned.

I have the boss system and for the extra $600 (or around 600) that it is I think it's a pretty descent sounding system. Of course it doesn't sound as good as the after market system I have in my 92 Yukon, but then again that system was worth over $2500.

I have the base stereo and the bass is at least present, but not very strong. I am underwhelmed with the stereo. It sounds OK to me but I wish it were a bit more clear and had better bass. Right now it just seems a little muffled and not too powerful.

My biggest concern is that this is a brand-new car and I don't want to modify it very much, because I like that sense of it being pristine and new. Once I start modifying it, it becomes more like a construction project to me, and less like a new car. It's a subtle thing with me, but I know how I feel about these things.

Anyway, one of these days, maybe not for quite some time, I want to upgrade the stereo in a way that is as simple and plug-n-play as possible. That probably means going with Crotch-Feel's speakers, which usually come with instructions and OEM wiring connectors, so I can plug them right in without cutting any wires. I would also hope to get a nice amp, complete with Crotch-Feel wiring harness, that might sit where the nav package normally fits behind the upper center dash.

I'm hoping that for under $500-600 I could replace all six drivers with better ones and boost the power with a nice amp, all without cutting any wires. The only extra modification I might consider would be to add an aux. input and selector switch to the amp, so I could plug in my iPod without using an RF transmitter.

Any thoughts on this plan? Hope I haven't hijacked the thread too much, but this idea seems to go toward solving the problem that started this thread.

You're probably right, Mike. I'm just guessing at the total. Last time I checked Crutchfield had not yet measured the '8, so they didn't have any component recommendations. I'm looking forward to surfing the options when they get their sh*t together.

Have you folks listened to the 5.1 Surround Sound system in the new Acura TX? This system is absolutely incredible. Note the 5th center speaker on the current RX8 dash? Seems like a natural upgrade in the near future to me. I highly recommend that you not upgrade anything as the next model year may very well have a "matched" 5.1 SS system that will directly fit in the odd mount of the current system. I'll bet ya....

I'll chime in here again: Given how cheap OEM drivers are, it's hard to imagine NOT being able to get better ones for maybe $100/pair for the tweeters, $100/pair for the doors and $200/pair for the parcel shelf. Maybe Infinity Kappas, which are dirt cheap on eBay. That's $400 there, plus $200 for an amp, is $600. Maybe not optimal or wonderful, but way better than stock I bet. Just a guess.

My sport package has no center speaker in the dash. Not sure how hard it would be to add one, but it might be a real bitch.
