Sub box and 1 12"???
I was thinking about putting a single 12" sub and amp in my 8 and running it off the stock deck using the stock bose speakers. Is this possible? Also for teh people running only 1 12" sub what is the best kind of box for our car sealed or ported? I was planning on fiberglassing a custom box and amp rack so that the sub is tucked in a the back corner of the trunk with the amp hidden. I plan on using either a Diamond Audio or Jl Audio sub with a Alpine PDX amp. any other suggestions?

Rob,
If you doing a 12" I would suggest you will want to do it in a sealed box. Unless you plan on using about half your trunk for a ported enclosure. Most your ported 12" subs boxes are about 2.25 to 2.5 cu ft. Seal you can go as small as 1.25 to 1.5 cu ft.
Of course you can check the specs for both to see what they recommend for sizes.
Both are great subs, almost indentical in SQ. I had the 10" diamond sub ported thru the arm rest. I took all the area under the rear deck area. I gave it to my son. Then went and purchase the 10w0 JL and went to a sealed box and cut the box size in half
Just for what my two cents are worth.

unless you're using a sub that can run ported in a really small box, I'd go sealed tood. I have a 1.5 ft^3 box in my trunk and it's taking up a good bit of room under the rear deck. You also run into installation issues with a bigger box unless you plan on building the box in the trunk. I barely fit my box back there because the trunk hole is so small

Ported enclosures are not going to give you as much accuracy as sealed. The advantage of ported enclosures are that they are louder than sealed enclosures, at the cost of sound quality.
Decide what sub you want to install first, and go off the specs that the manufacturer recommends for the best size. That could be a factor in determining the sub since you are short on space.

Alright spent the day with the guy as he made the template for the box. I had him do mine as a single and just for the one side. He can make it full box all the way across with two subs or he can make a single box on one side and an amp rack on the other.
He should have them posted on Ebay soon. If you want info sooner that that contact him at
http://www.srqcustoms.com/
I'll edit this post later tonight and post a picture.

It is a single 10", you can request it as a 12". The construction is perfect no leaks. He uses the high quality MDF 3/4". It has the terminal cup on the back. Nothing cheap about his work. He stands behind it 100%
Best thing to do is contact him. He'll tell you what is possible. Let him know what sub you have in mind.

I just got it yesterday. It's all hooked up and it looks and sounds GREAT. For the money, there is no better box for the RX-8. Well, even if you don't consider money, I think it's the best box for the 8. I got the box that goes all the way across. The sub is on one side and I mounted my amp on the other side. I'll post some pics as soon as I get some.
