This wouldn't happen to be Jeff with my GSL-SE exhaust would it?
I had an 8" sub installed in the floor of my 2nd gen RX-7 in front of the pedals on the drivers side and also in the corresponding passenger side floor area as well. The box (.3 cuft.) didn't go outside and legroom was actually greater than stock when I was done! You'd have to really understand crumple zones to figure out how this was done. Anyways if an 8" can fit there then I guarantee that I can get one in the RX-8 in the rear spot. Hell I can put a speaker in most places that others can't so I'm going to say that it can be done with some effort. I could probably put one in the front of the car. Hell I built a van for Rockford. I'm sure I could figure that one out. Anyone want to let me look at their RX-8 for a day?

From the measurements I have, there is room to put an 8" sub where the stock 6x9s are (and either go without rear fill altogether, or just use a small coaxial to the side), and there is room to put an 8" or 10" sub in the area between the 6x9 speakers, where the stock BOSE amp is located.

I gave up that hollowed out spaced in the trunk for a 10" subwoofer, seems like you'd be able to fit 2 8" there almost flush if you wanted to.
