Nah it sounds like he wants the sub in the trunk but pointed through the open pasthrough -- maybe like this https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/finally-12-xxx-driver-installed-subbn-97332/

Thanks WikkedOne that's exactly what I meant, except I could have sworn I saw one where the guy built an enclosure that extended all the way out to that black cover and added a grill to it for the sound to pass though.

Anyone have that link?

Thanks again WikkedOne...

Not sure if this is what you were looking for... but here is the link anyway: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/installed-custom-stealth-sub-box-between-rear-seats-mp3-player-amp-38560/
I was very happy with the small passthrough box first, and it sure did look pretty... but after a while, it was obvious it doesn't provide sufficient bass - and I'm not even a bass junkie.
I replaced the sub with a 4080 box and 10" Infinity Kappa and am much happier now.
Unless you can get a more efficient design, my advice would be against going this route. A larger box that uses the passthrough as the port (and looks equally nice like mine did) would be very cool though.

Tamas, thanks for replying...no it was not the one I saw earlier but exactly the same concept...I really like the look of it...reminds me of a Viper or Porsche...did you get a lot of rattle in the rear doors and widows because it was firing straight into the cabin?...I like the 1080 idea but I would much rather go with a 12"...I'm pretty sure I could make it fit in that location, because I found some subs from CDT Audio that only need about 0.4 to 0.6 cu. ft. for a 12", so I'm cosidering that...but I really love the look of the one you had...very Palm Springs!

No rattles... the bass was OK but not powerful enough to cause anything like that.
What really bothered me was that it did not go deep enough, which is not surprising at all, considering the small box size and 8" woofer.
A 12" in a ported box would be earth-shattering, compared to what I had.

I purchased a custom passthrough enclosure housing a JL 10W7 and it's sounds perfect. No trunk rattles, sounds & looks awesome, and I get to keep my trunk space. I had 2 12W3s before and the one 10W7 sounds just as good if not better. Here's the link:https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=101470
