Successful install of AudioLink

Finally ordered my audiolink last week, came on Sat., installed Sat. night. I was unsure of how difficult it would be since I had no experience with car stereo installations, however it all went very well. Finished in < 2 hours including a test drive.

My only issue was with the connections to the radio, I couldn't get the AC one to budge, but I found the radio would slide forward enough I was able to reach my hand back through where the glove box was and plug the cable in that way without having to disconnect the radio. This of course requires removing the glove box, but it takes all of 45 seconds and is where I mounted the audiolink.

The hidden bolt was very easy once I took off the metal plate held by the 4 philips screws under the steering wheel, I had a clear view of it and was able to get a socket up there without too much trouble.

The audiolink works great, so if anyone is on the fence about how hard it is to install, it's really not difficult at all and sounds great.

Audiolink install - Not as easy as it seems.....

Also just installed my AudioLink USB version. I thought it was quite tricky, especially since people were saying the installation was a breeze. The two screws behind the ashtray bolting down the head unit was really difficult to remove. I almost grinded away the screw. Also, the cables behind the head unit were difficult to disconnected, and now my fingers hurt a lot. After all is said and done, my audiolink plays fine, and the sound quality is surprisingly good. I somehow managed to tear my jeans, and I have a bunch of cuts on my arm, as well as some minor nicks and scratches on the interior of me 8 .

Nonetheless, it was well worth it!

Note:
It could not read one of my USB drives. I suspect it was because there is some locking software on it (??). It was able to read my SD card plugged into the provided SD-USB adapter.

1. how in the world did you crawl behind the dash to tear your jeans?

2. yeah.. if your usb drive has any software on it the audiolink won't work right most of the time.. was posted in another thread somewhere.

3. only time i cut myself was running the wire for my radar detector and that was 100 percent my fault.

Haha..Good question. I was kneeling on the ground at some point, which was asphalt. I can only assume it was the rough asphalt that did it, and my mad acrobatic skills needed to maneuver around in the 8 to reach to stuff. I had a really hard time unscrewing the "hidden bolt".......
Ok, yes, this is my first time doing anything on my car.

Thanks for the info on the USB. I tried it again today, after deleting everything, and just using the folder structure CD01-CD06. Still didn't work. I can only assume that this flash drive is special. I'll try it with a different USB drive.

Just my two cents. I love the Audiolink, however I needed an updated chip right out off the box. A simple IC swap, but still required me ripping it apart again to do. No biggie. Fixed a lot of bugs. (Main one refusing to start playing automatically when car is started)

Anyhow..... my Ipod still locks up once in awhile. Usually when I try to scroll through playlists from the car. Doesn't seem to like that at all. I have stopped using them altogether and just use the Ipod to navigate through the artists. Another thing I don't like is the delay when I press track forward or back from the car. I wish I could just press the button 4-5 times and have it skip 4 or 5 tracks. Doesn't work like that..... infact, if I do press it repeatedly, it will skip like 9-10 tracks. So in order to skip 4 songs ahead, I must press skip........skip........skip......skip. Kinda sucks if you want to jump 10 tracks towards the end of the disc or something.
