suggestion on HU
im getting ready to start my glorious audio makeover for my rx8 and i have everything picked out except for my HU... right now im deciding between the AVH-P4000 and the avic-f900bt both by pioneer
here the avic-900bt
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...sh/AVIC-F900BT
and here the p4000

and if anyone has any other suggestions for a good HU thatd be great... i already have the stock navi in my 8 so im sort of leaning towards the p4000 but i just dont know yet
thanks!!

I have no issues with the 4000 interface. Looks fine to me.
But other than that, I echo everything RX8-13b said. If you DON'T have stock navi.... that makes the decision much more difficult. lol I'd say 900BT for sure in that case.

IMHO - the stock navi sucks and you would be MUCH happier with the Pioneer navigation. However, in that case, I still wouldn't want you to get the F900BT - instead I would suggest the F90BT over any other one because it has the 4V pre out instead of the 2.2V like the 900 and the rest of the F series.
The p4000 has 4V pre out too - which is a good thing. So if you are really satisfied with the stock navi, then the 4000 is the one for you. If not, get the P90BT and thank me later .
Another thing to keep in mind is that the 4000 is not satellite radio ready. So if you think you will ever want Sirius/XM radio, you would have to get an external receiver or a new HU.
But whatever you do, get the bluetooth add-on. It will change your life.

you won't have to turn your amps up as much to get the same sound - which means, your amps won't clip as soon (you can turn it up louder), less distortion at all levels, less heat produced by the amps etc... etc...
you can add a line input device in between a 2V output and the amp to sort of amp it up to 4V to get the same effect, but that will still have the same, or maybe create more, distortion depending on how much money you spend
I've considered switching to the F90BT from my Z2 a billion times but thats the only reason I can think of...

i really really want to take my stock navi out and sell it so i can have a flat dash and take the controls out of the center console because i think they are annoying so i might go with the F90BT... how hard is it to take the stock navi apart?

However, you make some other very valid points. The F-series has built in bluetooth versus the $100-$150 add on module for any other Pioneer unit.
Higher voltage RCAs will also reduce any induced noises that may enter your RCAs through-out their run. Higher voltage is always a large plus when you're using aftermarket amps.

I stand humbly corrected.. as always firebird is wise beyond his years
and the dash isn't that hard to take out as long as you are taking the dash to do the stereo anyways.. and I don't think you would have much trouble selling the navi unit - there are a lot of carputer ideas around here that need that if you are gonna sell it for a reasonable enough price i might just trade ya
