No. Did you read this thread?
you need AT LEAST 2 keys that are already cut/programmed (this can include the valet key) to program another key, after having it cut.
If you don't have 2 keys already that will unlock/start the car you will have to get the new key cut (anywhere can cut the key so it unlocks the door) AND you will have to get it programmed so it will start the car. You can get the programming done at a dealership or at select locksmiths.
Once you have those 2 programmed you can program another.
If your FOB goes bad you don't need any working ones to program the new one. All you need is ONE functioning key (fully functioning, unlocks and starts car). Use that key and follow the procedure to program the FOB.
If you have an '04 you CAN buy the switchblade FOB with FCC ID: KPU41788. It will program correctly.
I hope this is a reasonable summary for those reading the thread.

I am curious, I recently bought a rx8 from a co-worker of mine. Great buy, but the keyless entry just stopped working! I tried to reprogram it after I replaced the batteries but still no luck. So I am looking at getting a switch blade keyless entry. I have read that they work but I'm curious if I need to make sure of anything. I only have 1 key from the owner.
Visteon Model: 41848
FCC ID: KPU41805
Would anyone be able to tell me if this keyless entry will work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BRAND...ht_1392wt_1165
or
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-09...#ht_878wt_1083
Also how much will it cost to have it programmed and cut? I don't think its possible with just 1 key is it?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the reply. Why might my transceiver stop working?

No... It will definitely work if you follow the steps correctly. I have two used switchblades bought from an eBay seller, my other blade haven't been replaced for the key to work with my car, only my keyless FOB.
Addendum: Read the summary by Lord ET had posted if any of you are too lazy to go though all posts in this thread. Figure out the FCC ID before you make a purchase. This discussion has five pages, take the time to read those and you will find your answer sooner than waiting for an answer to the question you posted that's been answered in the past, slvrmzdrx8.

If you want my old fob, ill give it to you, just mail me a pre-paid postage box or envelop. Fob works, and so does the RF transmitter but it refuses to program with my car. The new Fob i bought works fine though.

I bought my 04 rx8 used and only have the VALET key for it no remote no master key. If i buy a switchblade key from ebay will I still be able to cut it and program it for my car? I know the valet key doesnt open the trunk or glove box if locked. So if i cut the switchblade using my valet key as a copy will it be able to open my glovebox and trunk?

When you cut a key from another it is a duplicate...how do you think you would majically get a non-Valet key
If you go to the dealer they can cut a key( or 2 ) using the VIN.......and get them to program it since you won't be able to do that either

Not trying to threadjack but.. Just got my switchblade key in the mail (ordered it from ebay). Called up Koeppel Mazda here in Queens and the guy there told me that there not allowed to cut aftermarket keys on their cutter since it can damage the cutter. What kinda bullshit is that? He said if i bring the key he may be able to try if its a genuine Mazda key. He quoted me $107 to cut the key and $60 to program it. Are there any other options that i have? Because that seems like a ridiculous price to cut and program a key. Again i only have the valet key for my car.

Im not too sure about the price for two keys? I might call back tommorow to ask. But i see what your saying. I should get one key from them and have my switchblade key cut from that somewhere else and take them both there to get programmed.
EDIT: Just called them back and its $65 for a new key alone. So i could get a new cut key from them and have my switchblade cut somewhere else and to program the two key its still $107. Only thing they said I would have to speak to the service dept. for programming aftermarket keys. So i have to callback tomorrow since the service dept. is closed now.

I finally tested my fob and found it non-functional for whatever reason it may be. So i decided a switchblade is the proper answer but am finding a lot of the ebay sellers are specifically saying these CANNOT be programmed by yourself and that you need a locksmith or the dealer.
For example ....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAZDA-REMOTE...fc6fc1&vxp=mtr
Under "important" he says there is no manual way to do it yourself. This conflicts with what i'm pretty sure to be true on the boards and getting the proper fcc id from this thread i still should be able to program myself right?

Read the procedure. You've got everything you need (except the switchblade and blank) to do it yourself with a quick trip to a hardware store to copy your existing (not valet) key to the blank.
The valet key definitely works as part of coding -- just don't use it to cut your new key. And you do not need an existing FOB. They all get re-registered when you follow the specific procedure for them... again, documented above.

Got that, thanks and its great to have it deeper in the thread for those lazy people who don't start at page one. However my question wasn't about how to do this, it was hoping to confirm that the nonsense with ebay sellers saying "no self programming" was actually nonsense. Even though all the numbers matched up and everyone said it worked it's been almost 4 months since the last informative post and i couldn't find anything in the entire thread that mentioned to ignore what sellers said about "dealer only programming"
