Theft Protection With Chip Inside The Key
The RX-8 trainer, who was a the dealer today, said the key has a computer chip inside it. Everytime the car is started, the chip is read to make sure it is the real key. If it is incorrect, or hotwired and the key is not read, the engine shuts off completely. If this is true, there is a nice security feature that isn't being showcased.

Well, it's a relatively common thing, and it's not new. There are enough new and unique items about this car that it kind of takes a back seat when you are choosing things to "showcase".
Still, you're right. It's a nice security feature.
Those of you who are thinking about putting a remote start in their car will have to do some clever work to get it to work with this system. But, it can be done (say no more, say no more...).
