Question Is this tooo Expensive

So I just went to Al & Ed Autosound and proposed this too them: I have a sub, two amplifers and wireing for a complete system, I am also going to buy replacement speakers from elsewhere, how much will it cost to install specified equipment including a LC6 and rewire the whole car inlucding a custom face in the depression of the trunk?

The anwser:
-$120 for the LC6 (Bose converter)
-$250 custom face in trunk depression
-$430 labor

The labor seemes really high? Any suggestions on good cheaper places in the Southern California area? posssibly do it myself but I am unfamilar with the installation of the LC6.

So you are keeping the stock head unit and changing out speakers and amp?

Depends on the extent of custom work.

If you are worried about price I would just add the sub. The speakers aren't bad for the Bose it just doesn't have the ability to tune or have great lows. Adding a sub makes it sound waaaay better.

Adding a sub shouldn't cost less than half of what they quoted you.
Did they mention how good the Bose converter was?
You may be able to get away with tapping the rear speakers with a Line Output Converter and sending that signal to your sub amp.

If you are going to all the trouble of swapping out speakers drop the stock head unit and install a decent one. That way you won't have to pay for the $120 dollar converter and it will give more customization of the sound quality.

Yes DIY is a choice but at the time I am renting so I dont have a garage to do it in. As for replaceing the HU I want to keep it so that the display and stering wheel contols are still usable. I have heard about tapping in to the rear for the sub only, a friend of mine did that (through a store) and the HU got blown. Thanks for the imput.

Did he tap in after the Bose amp? I believe that can happen if it the signal is tapped before the Bose Amp since the signal is balanced and not much power.

Did the place you are looking at mention how good the Bose converter was?
It would have to be a balanced line converter.

I am mistaken, I forget the name and assumed the product was the AC6 but what I was actually instructed to use (by forbidden, member) was the Audio Control 6XS. I do not know what the quailty of the AC6 is. The installer going to tap into the signal after the HU and after the amplifers then install the coverter and hook-up to my new amps.

No the install price is not too high....unless you want items thrown into the trunk, improperly secured etc.. A good install takes time and most good installers always put a little extra into their job on hand. The reason for the 6XS is simple. In the BOSE system, it can tap a signal before or after the factory amp. It then adds the ability to control the sub, provides a noise gate, line driver functions, multiple output functions for future expansion and finally is a crossover of far better function than the basic crossovers built into amplifiers.
