troubleshooting basslink install

ok, i've installed a basslink 200 watt system in my bose-equipped 2005 rx-8 using this 'tsunami' install kit bought at circuit city.

i'm having a problem getting sound out of it. all i'm getting is a little tiny bit of sound that is only audible when the gain is turned way up on the amp, and the crossover is turned all the way up on the amp as well. even then, it's only faint.

the power cable was routed correctly through a hole in the firewall, as i'm getting full power. the ground was set on a chassis bolt with the nearby paint scraped off in the trunk.

i chose to use the speaker level connectors for the wiring. i used the pink/black wire for the remote turn on, which works fine.

then i spliced into the wires going out of the bose amp as suggested in other threads and (this may be the problem) i used telephone wire splice connectors to splice the wires. see those here.

i used this schematic:

Left Front +: R / L
Left Front -: LG / R
Right Front +: L / W
Right Front -: Y / G

Left Rear +: G / O
Left Rear -: L / O
Right Rear +: GY / R
Right Rear -: BR / R

the reason i used these was that it splices 3 wires together: 2 are the cut wire from the bose amp (one wire), and the other is the wire from the basslink.

so all in all, i used 8 of these splice connectors.

i suspected that it was the ground at first, but i now am doubting that since i get good power. but now i think it may be my splice connectors causing the problem. lastly, it may just be the basslink itself is defective.

please, before i take it to some shop and have them fix my mistakes, (embarrassing), please offer some suggestions!!

thanks!

I know when I went to get my subs installed I had to purchase some sort of Bose conversions piece. I am not sure what exactly it was but it cost about 20 bucks and it was only necessary because I had the Bose system.
