Upgraded from base cloth to GT Leather seats

Does the base 8 have all the wiring necessary to operate a powered seat from a GT? Not too concerned about the heaters but just need to be able to position the seat properly once installed. Is there any wiring I'm going to need to do prior so installing the driver's seat? Or is it ready to swap?

Thanks

yea I found a thread asking about installing reinstalling seat heaters and installing aftermarket seats...I also found the wiring schematics for the electric heated seats, but i didn't know if my base model has all the wiring needed for the GT seats to fully operate or if I would have to run some extra wiring.... I'm almost certain there's no wires for the seat heaters, and if there was, there's no switch so that would be a project for another day. I want to make sure when I put the driver seat in, i'll be able to reposition it.

well since I couldn't find what i was looking for and didn't get any quick reponses I just jumped on the project... doesn't appear that it's gonna be plug and play... I took the old seat out and just set the new one in place and plugged it in and nothing... there's only 6 wires in the stock plug harness from left in the car after removing the old seat and the powered seat has 11... I don't even car about the heaters right now I just want a seat that I can position.

I'm guessing the yellow plug by itself is for the airbag? and the larger white plug powers all the seat functions?

well since the wiring is a no go... here's what I'm going to try...

Gonna break down the driver's side powered seat and reinstall them onto my manual tracks... anyone tried this yet? Any problems anyone knows about that I should know about before I give this a shot?

My car came with cloth seats. It also came for the wiring and plugs for the seat heater switches. I would assume heated leather seats would be a plug and play affair.

Remove your shifter console and look for two unused wire harnesses. As far as the switch all you'd need is a shifter console that came with switches.

really im not even concerned with the heaters... i'm more concerned getting the seat to function so that I can put it in a driveable position... I can see the harness that I disconnected my old seat from on has 6 pins while the female end of the harness connected to the new power chair requires 11... the 2 plug together just fine no problems... but it's not supplying power to the chair so that it can be repositioned... BUT problem is allready solved. Took about 3 hrs I disassembled both chairs and installed the leather seat and backing onto my old manual tracks... works just fine. However I must have plugged something in wrong my seat belt sensor & light work fine but my Airbag light came on my dash and I know its the driver's side seat as I didn't get the light after installing the passenger side alone. What a PITA I'm glad i'm only doing this once : )

Its too late to fool with it tonight I will check under my driver's seat daylight tomorrow and make sure all plugs are connected securely that may be causing my airbag light.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well if anyone else has done the swap. Like soul not really interested in the heater, but the power controls.

Unless my car is just an odd ball... they are not ready for power seats without some electrical work.

I chose to just swap the tracks out I put the leather seat on to the manual tracks my cloth seat was on. It will most likely require a second hand (someone to help you) and about 2-3 hrs if you've never done it before like myself. It is a big pain in the *** but doable

Have you tried calling a Mazda stealership and asking where the heated seat plugs into/female side of the plug is?

Yea I checked the both fuse boxes as well on the driver side foot well and under the hood. All fuses/relays that had anything to do with seats/heating were in place so that wasn't it either.

The heaters aren't my issue any more but post how your outcome is rotarykillz it'd be interesting to see what needs to be done or if I did something wrong???

My issue now is completely different. I'm getting SRS light code 49 which I believe involves something to do with the passenger side Safety restraint system meaning it can be either the airbag or belt system. I originally thought it was coming from the driver side but I just confirmed that it's not. I did some foolin around under the passenger side and it then changed the SRS code 5-2 which I can't find any info on. I know for a fact the air bag itself is plugged in and the code is not from the bag itself and my seat belt light seems to be functioning correctly. I can't quite figure out why the light flashes but I'm not too concerned with it right now. I'm ready to just pull the light outta the dash. lol WHATEVER it's coming from it has something to do with the seats I just installed.

No I started this project about 7pm on a saturday night... they're closed today. I may give them a ring tomorrow to learn more about the SRS codes my cars throwing though.

Last night I was running cables and underneath the center console, there was a cable going to nothing I had never seen before. This might be the DVD cable? (I don't have NAV) but it may be worth checking it out. It was right underneath the rear seat console with the lid and stuff..

On the center console there's still places to hook up the heater wire harness/plug (on the bottom side of the console piece). You might need to hook all those up to keep the electrical relay in place (not having those plugged in could prevent power from getting to the electric seat motor.

We are almost to the stage of putting back together, so haven't tested this yet, but I also got the seat heater switch to hook up as well. Will let you know.

cool... interested in your results. I'm happy with mine I honestly don't care whether my seats are motorized or manual once it's in place, it's in place and I don't touch it. Plus I'm in a region where seat warmers aren't really necessary... we might see a handful of freezing temperatures in a winter season. It rarely goes below 30 degrees. My main goal was leather upgrade, and It's done. Looks killer ; )

You may have to get your codes cleared with a code reader, OR MAYBE even the Mazda Service Computer. The SRS light was never on for me before. It has been on for over a week though since I sold my OEM steering wheel, and then installed the bride seat.

i think it's just because the wiring harnesses are different... the airbags are on their own circuit and seperate wiring harnesses i KNOW these are plugged in correctly they are idiot proof... i'm thinking its something to do with the safety belts or sensors in the seats??. Who knows... not really worried about it. I did try to clear codes my self by disconnecting battery for like 5 min. But the same light popped right back on. I plan on keeping the car till i drive it to the ground after putting all this money into it recently. I can deal with another light on my dash

Disconnecting the batt. for over 20 minutes usually works on any car, for clearing codes. I would try disconnecting it overnight or for an hour, and see. 5 mins may not have been enough.

I finished up late last night. Every thing worked just fine. The power driver seat worked great. The heated seats worked great. I have lots of good pictures I'll get up tomorrow as I'm traveling all day today.

One thing to note. My seats I bought were taken apart for shipping, so we had to re assemble them. ALL the plugs on the driver's seat were undone so we had to put them all back together again. Should only be 2 harness plugs for each seat, one for seatbelt/airbag and one for power/heater. My fuses were all in place, so wasn't a problem.

I may get under mine and take pictures of my wire harnesses to show you guys what I mean. The wire harness that goes to the motorized tracks has 5 wires that aren't getting any type of connection... and my seat wouldn't power up. Again not a big deal my swap is done my seat is just on manual tracks.
