VGA to RGB+CSync
#76
Let me just clarify that I modified the stock LCD with a touchscreen.
I did post a few photos but none of the higher res ones with instructions.
It did involve cutting some metal and disassembling a good part of the LCD which some might be REALLY REALLY uncomfortable with. However the end result is a very flush touchpad overlay.

Man you kids seriously need to learn how to read.
I DISASEMBLED MY STOCK LCD AND MODDED IT TO FIT A TOUCHSCREEN OVERLAY. THEN SPLICED THE RGB+S CABLE FEEDING IT A 15KHZ HORIZONTAL / 30HZ VERTICAL INTERLACED FREQUENCY USING POWERSTRIP. I SWITCH BACK FROM NAV TO VGA USING A CHEAPO KVM WIRED TO A PUSH BUTTON SWITCH ON THE DASH ACTIVATING A PUSH-SOLENOID MOUNTED ON THE KVM UNIT.
Be patient, I will write up all of this.

if you have time please glance at this....
http://www.converters.tv/assets/Vga%...cga.rgb_81.pdf
its says it converts vga to rgbs.
If i use this and then have powerstrip send a 15 by 30 hz, it should work..i think...
I wil try to organize everything else you said anichristpm...and get back wiht a layout
sorry i am a noob at the stock screen hacking

3 75ohm resistors <--- $.99
1 two way vga splitter
1 ATI vga to mac monitor adapter
Take the 3 resistors and short pins 1 w/6, 2 w/7, 3 w/8. Basically your RGB's. Viola, your vga card will now detect a monitor attached. From there you can hook up the other end of your splitter to the vga to mac adapter to derive signal.
Eventually I am gunna do a write up with this along with my how-to-add-a-touchscreen overlay to the LCD. Which btw, works lovely.

Thank you so much for all your help...

i'm really stoned and tired right now i'll look tomorrow but i think this man has got a possibility... however i think the only output at 30hz was at CGA res which if i remember correctly is only 320x200... i'll do a lil research tomorrow, email them etc...
for that price though it's golden.

Okay, to once again point out that folks don't read...
Here is your much cheaper answer to all: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
I picked one up for $1.50, you take pins 2,3,5, and 9 for your RGB+S as per this diagram and ground 1,6,11,13 and 15. http://pinouts.ru/data/pin_MacVideo.shtml

bump for a 6 month old thread...
Is powerstrip absolutely necessary for this particular mod? or is there a way to hack the h- and v-syncs down from 60hz to where they need to be, by using hardware alone? I dont think my laptop has the capability to do custom timings

we can restart this discussion yes...a good idea
really unless you buy a converter for VGA or component video to RGBs which costs well over $500 you are looking at using Powerstrip...which is a great program by the way.
I'd explore more but it will have to be in a week...we can discuss it if you want over AIM too if that is better

I've been searching for a way to interface a laptop with the Nav lcd screen. This old thread appears to be the best one I've found on the subject, but there isn't quite enough concrete detail.
From what I understand, the wiring from the nav dvd to the lcd supports rgb + a sync signal that has botht he horizontal and vertical synchronization signals. What happens if you feed RGB and a full composite signal? Will the lcd pick up the H/V or will there be too much noise. The reason I ask is because I saw an XBox cable which has RGB + Composite video: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...60svideocable/
Would this solve the issue of having to build my own circuit to merge the signals?
Alternatively, if I want to use a laptop for my carputer, can I bypass the vga and simply run signals from the built-in LCD?
