What fits?
Sorry to ask a dumb q, but will 6x9's really fit in the front? I came across this picture from Mazda detailing the speaker sizes (see attachment).
Also, could anybody point me to a DIY to replace JUST the speakers? How hard would this be? I've never done any audio installation, but it seems like you just take out the old speaker, put in the new speaker. Would any soldering be involved? Anything else I should know about?
Thanks!

Check this thread: Focal speaker replacement. If you get the speaker of the stock size, then all you do is take off the door, unscrew old speakers, screw in new speakers. Before you screw in the new speaks, you will need to snip off the harness that connects to the old speakers and attach those wires to the new speaker. You can either use quick disconnects that you crimp on (cleaner way) or just wrap the wires around the speaker's leads and hope it stays tight (ghettoish way).
Search for how to take off the doors. The above thread shows you photos of inside the door.

Buying speakers from Crutchfield is great because they give you free adaptors to fit the factory wiring harness to give you spade connectors to connect to your aftermarket speakers. This is worth a lot to me. I went this route with my two last cars to avoif cutting any of the factory wiring.
Is 5x8 in the rear as well?
I would think that if you replaced all 4 with some powerful 6x9's, added a 50wx4 amp, you might not need subs at all, unless your a bass freak.
