Why does the little light in the trunk draw so much power?

Why does the little light in the trunk draw so much power?
I don't really have a question, I'm just venting.
I went out of town for three days last week. Sometimes when I take the remote key out of the ignition, I hit the trunk release button by mistake. Prior to this time, I've always heard the trunk lid open up and I close it before leaving the car.
But not this time.
So I come back from my trip and find the battery completely dead.
I jumped it OK, but it doesn't make sense to me that the tiny little light in the trunk can draw so much power that it completely drains the battery in only three days.
To avoid this from happening again, I took the bulb out. It was mostly useless anyway, since I have a spare tire kit.

I've never had the battery die, but I have popped the trunk accidentally without noticing 3 or 4 times. I now disable the pop with the button in the glove box. Must use the key now.
Also, prior to me going to key only.... you can monitor the parking light flash when you lock the doors. If they flash, you're good. If the doors lock but the lights do not flash, the trunk is popped. I always watch for the flash.

I have LED in the trunk, never have this problem.
Also tower 25-LED is much brighter so it is still useful even there is spare tire kit.
However, I took spare tire out after a while. Waste of gas and space....

A 25 LED will leave the battery just as dead after three days.....
There is a neat DIY that runs an led off the same power, mounted in the center of the plastic rear shelf, and shines in your rear view mirror when the trunk is popped.

I have exactly the same problem. I left my car for 2 or 3 days at most then the battery was completly flat. Not even enough battery left to receive signals from my fob. I notice the trunk was poped. I thought I hited the trunk bottom whitout knowing it. It happent again! And I'm 100% sure I did make sure it was closed before I left the car. How can my trunk just pop up like that? Is it an electrical issue here? Don't want to take out my battery and recharge it and place it back, take soo much time.

I have to press down my trunk button and hold it for 1 sec to open the trunk.
It would never happen if I just press it.
