NC XCarlink iPod compatibility?

I just ordered the XCarlink iPod adapter from the RPM Store. As part of the ordering process, it had me specify which iPod I have and which generation. I selected the type that will be used most often which is a 1st gen iPod touch. However, we are a family of 4 and have 5 iPods between us. This got me thinking, what if we want to play someone else's iPod in the car or we buy a newer one at some point? I know there are probably no guarantees on a new version but I'm wondering what the compatibility of other iPods we own might be with this unit. We have 2 1st gen iPod touches, 1 2nd gen touch, 1 iPod mini, and a 1st gen iPod nano. They all have the port on the bottom and we have been able to use most of them on the Bose iPod dock we have as well as some knockoff branded one we have. So, should they all be compatible with the Xcarlink or is it really specific to each type of iPod?

The XCarlink supports almost all iPod devices (other than the Shuffle due to the connection). They ask for your device type for information collecting purposes.
