XM Commander Install Trouble
After following many posts on dismantling the console, removing the ashtray, searching forever and then finally finding the elusive 10mm bolt, then springing the head unit from the clips in dash, I thought I was home free.
But I am stuck as I can not get the A/C control connector free. Using a mirror I convinced myself that the bottomside of the connector has the tab (can anyone confirm this?).
So I did as I had done previously and squeezed and squeezed on the bottomend of the connector but don't seem to be moving the tab down (or in this case up) enough to allow me to pull it free.
Any suggestions or tricks. Special tools?
Thanks in advance

I've hasd mine out a half dosen times. I always used a very small (like 2 mm wide) standard screw driver. My memory is all the "hooks" are on top but without removing it again to check, i can't confirm. But there's always one or two that always cause me to think "am I sure I'm relasing this correctly.
Good luck

I was about to go after it again (XM Commander install) when I saw a post about Sirius availability in the "Summer". Called the dealer. Still not in their most recent parts summary for the RX-8. Parts guy at the local dealer says it is compatible with stock head unit. That would really be sweet and allow what I prefer which is non-aftermarket look. But I was not so confident the Parts guy was giving good accurate info. Sounded like an opinon. More to come as he said he would call dealer services to get update on the Sirius POS option.

I have been trying to get information about the Sirius option since it was announced in February but no one seems to know about the backwards compatibility. Hope you have luck finding out something.

Got a call back from the local dealer on Sirius availability. Unfortunately nothing new. Parts guy called regional dealer services for Mazda. Sirius is now available for the Tribute. No news on RX-8. I sent a message via mymazda.com asking for update. Unfortunately no response. Please post any new info you may have gathered from your local dealer.

Someone else said the Sirius for the Tribute is 900 retail, selling for 750 at the dealers. No way I'm paying 750 for that. Plus I like XM better than sirius anyway.

Jesus, that is expensive for Sirius option for Tribute. And likely that is in the ballpark for the RX-8 unit when it becomes available. I was prepared for $400 but at $750-$900, I may backtrack to the XM Commander unit. I guess I will stand down until midsummer and see what happens. I would prefer the fully integrated solution that uses the existing display, but may have to be practical. But, the slick XM Commander installations that you can find in this forum teach that a nice look can be had by those interested in taking the extra time during installation.
