Since there are 42 pages on this forum and I've read about half (not in order) I remember things but can't find them...even using the search. One thing I remember someone saying is that it took a delay in time from when you plug the iPod in, to when it is recognized. Does anyone know this delay time?

Also, is there some order you should plug the iPod in? ie, when the car power is off, or when the stereo is off, or when the stereo is on, or when the iPod is asleep, etc etc. I only ask because I can't find a pattern and my Audio Link is working spuratically. I think it's defective but we'll see.

Finally, do I need to do anything to unplug the iPod? Sometimes it says charging, sometimes "do not disconnect", sometimes nothing.

BTW, I'm putting together a summary of this entire thread. I hope to post it as a new thread and maybe get it sticky so people don't have to read the whole thing. Any objections to this?

oh yea, I also have 9.73 firmware. I thought I saw where some versions didn't work. If this is true, can someone provide the list that do NOT work?

Thanks!

Some things that you find early in the thread may no longer apply, as the hardware and firmware have changed multiple times since the product was originally released.

There is no special way to plug in the iPod. The delay between the time you plug it in and the time you can use it varies depending on if your iPod is in standby or "deep sleep" mode. If it's in standby, it will only take a second or two to sync up with the AudioLink. If it's in deep sleep mode (meaning the Apple logo appears as it is booting up), you will have to wait until it is fully booted up before you can use it. Likewise, you can unplug the iPod at any time.

With that said, functionally, it is probably better to plug in the iPod before you start the car. This way, when you do start the car, the AudioLink will command the iPod to start playing (assuming the AudioLink is currently selected via the headunit). If you start the car, and then plug in the AudioLink, you may need to press "play" manually.

Your firmware revision must be 9.55 or greater. Firmware versions 9.81 and 10.01 (found only in Europe) are not compatible.

I got mine tweaked Wed and it's working great now! A note for all who are doing the install...undo the battery first. It's a step I thought wasn't needed because the stereo would be reset when all the wires are undone from it.....wrong. Something else needs to be reset so just undo the battery. It may save you some problems later (see above for the issues I had). Those issues were all my fault for not undoing the battery.

It works great now! Now I just wait for the iPhone to come out. <twiddles thumbs>

Oh yea, I didn't put "the bolt" back in. It doesn't seem to matter because the stereo is held in with the clips.

I'm psyched, I just ordered one. I think I'd rather have my ipod in the glove box though to keep it away from the heat of the center console. any good place to stash the audiolink box? or should I put the audiolink and the ipod both in the glox box?

thanks

When you pull out the HU you can remove the vents above it and then the centre panel above the vents (total of 4 screws). There is a shelf under the panel in front of the centre speaker. As long as you don't have Nav you'll have lots of room.

shoot, mine doesn't work! I unhooked negative terminal of my battery, plugged it in to the back of my head unit, then turned it on to try it. it charges the ipod. but pressing the cd button just says 'no disc'. once it did say EX but no numbers. only once did it do that. I tried pushing the mode button on the steering wheel, that just cycled between am and fm. I checked, my firmware is 9.55. am I forgetting to do something??

after messing around with it for a while, it's mostly working now. when I first turn the car on, it doesn't want to go to ex... some combination of turning the car on and off and turning the head unit on and off usually gets it to see ex mode finally. then it mostly seems to work as expected.

occassionally it just pauses for no reason; the ipod actually turns off. then the ipod turns back on, and it resumes playback. the numbers on the screen just freeze while the ipod is off.

I'll play with it some more tomorrow.

Zojas,
Mine did that weird stuff at first too. After messing with it for a few days, I tried disconnecting the battery again, unhooked it from the back of the stereo (ie, back to stock), hooked up the battery, turned it all on, made sure FM & CD works, turn it all off, unhook battery, plug AudioLink back in, hook up battery. Then it worked fine and has been perfect ever since. I basically "reset" the PCM to stock (or whatever it's doing) then put in the new hardware. Now I can unplug the iPod at any time the car is off or on, doesn't matter. It charges and plays just how it should and all is really great! Just mess w/ it and give it some time for the car to figure out what's going on. Damn PCM....

ok, I tried that. unplugged battery, unplugged the audiolink, plugged the battery back in, head unit worked fine. unplugged the battery, plugged in the audiolink, plugged back in the battery. no audiolink. it charges the ipod, but I can't get EX at all. I tried unhooking the battery again, and it still didn't work. I then drove around for a while, and couldn't get it to come on.

I've got the battery unhooked right now, and I'll plug it back in this afternoon and try it again.

talk about frustrating.

Normal SD cards will. SDHC and miniSD cards will not.

is there any speed advantage to an SD card over a Pen drive? in regards to, in car mp3 access time more than trasfer rate at the computer.

or is $ : GB ratio the only facter.

i can't come up with much of a use for the 8 GB sticks with only 6 playlists and 594 songs.

No, there is no advantage to one over the other.

I ordered this bad boy on a Thursday, got it by Saturday and installed it that night thanks to some excellent posts in this forum. I have an 06 with the BOSE stereo, and can NOT get over what an awesome little upgrade this is. I was previously using a Monster RF tuner, which was great in my Civic, but HORRIBLE in the 8. The $120 price tag was well worth it!

3 months after having added this to my 8, I just wanted to give a bump it it!

Awesome little unit...night and day difference in audio quality, and just awesome support from falconTX.

Running my GPS through it for unprecidented sound of MP3's and directions, not to mention the Ipod integration on the other cable.

EXACTLY all it's supposed to be...and more. Thanx falcon.

i do have one question. i did not order the audiolink through falcontx, but rather from therpmstore website. http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=142

are the ipod connector and the 1/8" line input suppose to be split on opposite sides? what i mean is when they split, one comes out the same side as the cord and the other by itself.

Yes, they are. This was done for a couple of reasons. One is that a lot of people are using it for satellite radio and other devices that are not near their iPod. Another is that it will not be in the way if someone doesn't need it. And if someone does need the 1/8" jack near the iPod,for whatever reason, it's pretty easy to accomplish with an extension cable.
