Ok, I thought I'd try this again. I plugged in my iPhone this morning and again, the first message I get is that my iPhone is incompatible with this device and will not charge, will cause interference with making phone calls etc.. then the white 'iPod' screen shows up. When it does this, I can't select any songs at all..somehow it always defaults to Miles Davis.
The only thing different this morning than last night after installing the device, I pushed the 'Disc Up' button a couple of times to see what would happen. Amazingly, I was able to see my playlists again and for the entire ride to work, approx 35-40 mins, it shuffled properly within the playlist I chose. I'll have to play with it somemore to see why it does what it does..and I'll post more when I get home. Another note, the outside temp appears to be working properly, so I don't see a problem there and also, I haven't had any additional problems with the DSC flashing anymore.. I am able to manually turn it off and on, so maybe it was just a problem when I disconnected the battery...who knows??

In between tracks where there is no music, you can def hear a lot of 'buzzing', 'crackling'.. on the other hand, while music is playing, at any volume, you don't. I'd rather the interference not be there, but if there's no fix, I can live with.

Also, I saw you said it says "telephone" or something...is that though the iphone? are you hearing calls through the stereo?
I have been tryig to use the AudioLink to listen to my music and then I tried to run my bluetooth input into the AUX in, so that I can get calls to come through the stereo when the iphone gets a call....but it seems you cant use the AUX if the iphone is connect through the Ipod cable.

Oh yeah, finding that hidden bolt was a P.I.T.A. !!!! Disconnecting and replacing the connectors in the back was double P.I.T.A. !!! If you have small hands or skinny arms, you'll likely do better. The easiest way to pull out the H.U. is to go thru the glove box.. it just POPS! right on out..
But I did not remove the unit completely, just pulled it out a couple of inches and plugged the AudioLink in without removing any of the PITA connectors.

I emailed the RPM, they are sending me another unit..according to them, I should be hearing the crackling/interference noise. I'm gonna regret having to replace that thing, but now that I've done it, hopefully, it'll go faster/smoother this time around. I'll have to have someone call me while I'm in the car so I can listen to the message again. It does come over the car speakers, then the volume slowly decreases so you can take your call. That's pretty cool. I'm using an iPhone app called Voicebox to make and recv calls thru a Bluetooth device. I cannot hear phone conversations thru the car's speakers, only the initial message that I have a phone call.

Totally separate. It's a Motorola T305. It's just basically a small speaker/mic that's paired with your phone...you just clip it to your sun visor. When you get a call, press the blue button and talk.. when you want to talk, I use Voicebox for my iPhone, I speak the name of the person and it dials. But all conversation goes thru the Motorola device, not thru the car's speakers. I like it well enough.

Oh ok, actually I have the same device, what I did though is took it apart and wired out the speaker to my AUX in. That is why I am trying to get both AUX and the Iphone adapter to work at the same time, then I can make calls through that bluetooth unit, and then get the call through my cars stereo through the Audio Link.
But I just talked to them, it seems you cant do both AUX and have an iphone/ipod connected at the same time, but for $45 i can get their bluetooth unit, and it will route all calls through the cars speaker, and a tiny mic which can be hidden near the stearing, and you can just press the "next" button on the steering to answer calls. So that's pretty cool for just $45, I am probably going to buy that.

Whats worse? the crackling noise? I think that is normal when volume in zero.
Also, is ur issue not being able to control the ipod interface? You have "Disc down" to EX2 on your display, then you can control your ipod from its interface

Just an FYI, instead of using their AUX with my Motoroal T305, i bought the AudioLink bluetooth adapter for the AudioLink ipod connector. Works like a charm, now all need to do is hit the >> button for the stereo and it answers the call, it outputs the sound through the facory speakers, and you can press >> again to hangup. Also, it comes with a tiny mic which you can mount near the steering (hidden away) , so it is fully integrated to the car. Unlike the T305, i dont need to switch this on and off, its on all the time the car is on, and pauses the music from my iphone when a call comes in and directs the call through the cars speakers. Totally worth it for $45. I spent more than that buying a 305 taking the 305 apart and wiring it into the AUX.

Oh one more thing, that bluetooth device is also A2DP (stereo bluetooth) compatible. So if you have a phone or a device which can play stereo bluetooth (the iphone will be able to do this in the June OS3 update), you can play your music into the cars stereo without connecting it to the wire at all. win win situation with this device

Yeah, the EXT.1 thing works like advertised. I'm able to change my selection of music using the steering controls just fine. My issue is the background 'noise' coming thru the speakers. It's intermittent, but loud enough at times that the volume control does absolutely nothing to drown it.. The louder I play my music, the louder the noise. It's like when you have your cell phone sitting next to your pc at home and someone tries to call you...that feedback you get from your pc speakers is what I'm getting a lot of the time...

Got it..
"You must have the XCarLink-branded unit with the small rectangular port labeled "BT" on the front. If you do not have this port, this kit can not be used."

Yeah Mugatu, I think you neeed one with the BT port. Sorry to hear you dont have it. I told therpmstore that they need to advertise this better. They dont have a proper link to it, or even proper instructions. When the unit arrived it didnt even have instructions to let me know you can use the >> button to answer/drop calls. Otherwise I would have kept the little unit somewhere reachable and be pressing the button it came with. But after I got to know that the >> (fast forward) button on the stereo can answer calls, you can tuck the whole things away, and have the mic just peeking out near the steering.
The calls are very clear, and never had issues anwwering any calls. I wish there was a software update or something which will show song information and caller ID on the display, but I dont think that will ever happen.
jsjjr - about the noise, i get a tiny bit when there is no volume, but the momment volume is over 1 or 2, the noise is gone. It is not that the music overides the noise, the noise itself is gone. Because i have volume upto 15 and no music on, and i dont hear any noise. So if your noise is increasing, that could be a grounding issue on your stereo.

I'm not sure...I really don't know to tell the truth. I made sure everything was back where it was. I have no clue why the radio wouldn't be grounded..Everything is run thru the power plug correct? But both units give off the 'white noise'. If Ihave music loud enough, sometimes you can't hear it, but mostly it there. I've ignoring it for the most part. Pressing he MUTE button, mutes all noise. Making/taking phone calls, I always get that weird noise that you'd get if you placed your cell phone by your pc speakers.. Maybe it's my revision? 9.82??
