$4000 installed for Greddy Turbo - Good?

Alright, I was looking around at my options for what to do next with my 8 and the Greddy Turbo came into mind. I've been thinking it would be around $5000 installed for the kit, but I was talking to Rotary Extreme and they said $3000 for the kit from them and then $1000 for the install, it would take 2-3 days they said.

So with $4000, $1000 cheaper than I expected, I am really intersted now. Is $4000 out the door a good price? I've heard from some others that I need to buy a BOV? This right? How will it mix with my RP high flow cat? I've heard CEL come on cause of backfires, etc etc.

What I'm trying to get is all the information and everything that I need that is manditory for the install, also any known problems.

Thank you

$4000 is a very good price. Chuck Huang over at Rotary Extreme is a really good guy. They do top notch work. Plan on a week to get everything to work fine.

1. I have the Greddy Type S BOV. Works fine. The Type RS is very good as
well or the HKS SSV unit. I would recommend you getting the BOV.
Definitely increases the longevity of the turbo.
2. I had the SR Motorsports hi-flow cat, but ran into some backfire issues.
This seems to be a common problem with all hi-flow cats. A majority of
the people who have hi-flow cats with turbos run into this issue (not all
but a majority). I would recommend against it. I have put my stock
cat back on now.

Good luck.

3k+1k install is a good price.
I've got the RP hiflow cat (supercat). You'll have to get it dyno tuned since the cat will make you run lean.
There is a fix for the CEL, but your kit will have the updated stuff so you don't have to worry about that.

What is the differences between the different Type of BOVs?

Also, I don't know if it's $4000 installed with tuning or not.

I got another quote from the place that had installed my tein s-tech springs for me and has worked on a lot of my friends cars and he said about $800 for the install and tuning, they have a dyno machine in their shop.

Also, how will I know that I got all the updated things?

The sound is the difference. Also, read that the type rs is meant for high-boost applications, but will work fine. Do a search for type rs and type s , there's a few video clips around here.

All kits that were sold after June 1st have the updated dongles. thread here.

We tried to clip a little of the fuel on the de-accel to get rid of the backfiring but it wasn't to the point where I was happy, so I just pulled the hi-flow cat (I pretty much wanted it to drive like stock - no backfires).

Benny (tech over at Greddy put a post on here as to which kits are updated & which are not).

In terms of BOV's, the type S unit is the most basic, but for our cars as we are running so little boost, it is fine. The Typr RS is a newer BOV, the opening is a little larger, it also works well. it is a little more quiet than the Type S. The Type R is for high boost applications (20 lbs.+) & not really appropriate for our cars. HKS makes a completely different line called the SSV. There version of the BOV. Very good unit too.

I would recommend that you take it to a place that knows the ins & outs of a rotary. Might bump into a few hiccups.

Not just the "standard" backfire that you get with de-acceleration, but it was random popping everywhere. You could be cruising on the freeway at 70 mph & it would pop, you could be driving it regularly down the street & it would pop. It could pop 10X if you drove it 3 blocks, or not at all. Hell, I still have backfire now (about 75% better than it was) but it is much closer to like when I had a regular NA RX8. Much more tolerable.
