13B-REW swap
Hi guys, i was doing some research on swapping the 13B-REW into the 8, but all i find was a bunch of info stating how bad of an idea it is from two years ago
i am just wandering if anything has changed in that time
i wouldn't even be asking this question if someone hadn't suggested this to me
and after consulting Scott at mazsport about it, it may be an option
just looking for reputable input, if anyone has some knowledge on this topic please post, i do not need haters please lol
thanks

He wants more power, he has the SSR turbo, which pushes more than the greddy already. going with 13B-REW will probably require major modifications/$$$, why not go 20B? There is already a car in Scott's garage undergoing that already.

i don't want to do the 20b its just too much money, and realisticaly i don't need that much power
my motor is currently BLOWN!!! so... i'm at a cross roads
i originally talked to mazsport about reparing the motor and making it a little more reliable
i am looking to make about 350rwhp reliably (in other words i don't want to have to rebuild the motor every year
so after extensive talk with Scott, i got a very "round about" price range of 7k to rebuild everything and get it in tip top shape depending on how damaged my motor is of coarse
well after someone suggested it to me and a little research i talked to Scott about the 13B-REW swap. he said it would be a little more expensive, because of the extra work but most likely less repairs on the actual motor will have to be done, and the biggest factor is i could sell my kit
also he did state that it could make more power more reliably just because it has been around longer and there is alot more knowledge for it as far as tuning goes
now all of this does depend on that, i can't sell it then i have no choice
i am also having 2nd gear synchro problems
so using the rx7 5spd is something i was wandering about as well
scott said he should be able to make it all work fairly easy, the hardest parts would be the motor mounts (he said they shouldn't be that bad, and i will most likely go solid), and i would have to use the 8 ecu to run the paramaters, and probably a power fc for the motor

This video has an rx-8 with a 13b-rew installed in it - after they talk about the rx-8 a little bit.
Maybe this is some good motivation?

yeah i wish i could get some better engine bay pics of that car
i have a few of it an the Ganador car that rod millen drives but i can't seem to figure out where they cut the firewal
but both of those cars did alot more than just the swap they converted o all hydrolic brakes and tons of other race car stuff because of the stress that will be put on the cars in drifting

hmm, thats interesting
I am actually currently looking in another direction
unfortunately my experiance has kind of turned me off to rotarys (not that i don't still love and respect them)
its just that i have alot more experiance with inline 4 and 6 cylinder motors
so i might have to comit with sacrolidge and go piston (just NO v8s)
But we shall see, nothing is in stone

Why no V8 ? If you are going to make the switch then there is plenty of V8 LS1 experience with the RX7's. If anything you have much more expertise with that then if you tried to put an I4 or V6 in there.
As for going with a 13B REW. Do you need smog approval. Out here in Cali. I don't believe you can do that, as you have to get an engine that is as current as the car or better.
I feel you on the blown engine. Happened to me, and needless to say it is probably one of the most frustrating feelings I have ever had.

First off, I am in Mississippi and I dont have to worry about any of that smog stuff and the cops around here dont know anything.
And when I said experiance, I meant my experiance. I have much more experience with inline 4s and 6s.

I say if you're willing to take it on, go for it...getting 350whp would be simple with a REW.
On your current turbo setup, where were you reaching full spool?

i don't think it's taking a step backward. it's just a different way of tuning.
some like high reving NA; some like massive turbo boost. neither is "wrong", yes?
