330whp greddy Rx8

Last week we had a track day at Jacarepagua Ex. F1 Circuit (Rio de Janeiro - Brazil)
We did an open - catless 2 1/2" no catback - track exhaust for the car(just for track). Tuned it with 96 octane gas (brazilian gasoline has 25% of alcool). The result was 330 whp @ 9psi droping to 7psi @ 8000 RPM. I am using Unichip + extra 1500cc fuel injector before throttle body as fuel management.

The car is running smoth on street (almoust like the stock but with tons of more torque)... great for track, lots of power... enought to keep up against tuned WRX and Evo's. But the stock wheel/tires aren't handling the power. It's almoust impossible to push hard with the DSC off and don't spin.

The biggest problem was that the temp is going to high. I had to take a slow lap to cool down the car after pushing hard for 2 laps. It cools fast showing that the system is working fine, so it's obvious that i have to get a cooling system upgrade. Could someone help me, indicating a radiator, oil radiator, etc... whatever i need to help the car to cool down the extra hp's? Because i am in Brazil it's hard to lookout for those parts here. I would love if someone showme a link of a good store where i will find it.

I am getting to much back-fires on the car. even with the street exhaust (stock catback with catless 2 1/2" mid-pipe). I think it is the extra injector before throttle. Where can i get bigger fuel injectors (550 or 720cc or something like that) that i can replace the secundaries 360cc ? I would like to find bolt-on injectors. Any recomendations about that?

I have looked for a few Racing Compound Tire (Yokohama A048 or A032R or Toyo R888) but couldn't find any 18"... there were only 17"

I am still looking for options for better grip, i really need it, but today the bigger problem is the temp climbing to fast.

For handling i have RB sway bars and springs. And i did some camber/caster/align job.

try contacting forum member Sapphonica, he swapped for drop-in 650cc secondary injectors

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/back-saddle-ported-w-bigger-injectors-78261/

and the potential is there:

You can find a good radiator for your car at fluidyne site . then prepate a good one for my 3 rotor RX8 with no overheating problems.

I have the PWR upgraded radiator, silicon hoses, and have switched to synthetic oil, and also have the Royal Purple coolant treatment. They all helped a little bit, but engine/EGT still tend to heat up pretty fast. Next thing going in is an upgraded Greddy oil pan, it is supposed to increase capacity by another .5 quart & has some cooling fins. Probably not a big deal, but anything to help. Hopefully maybe find an upgraded oil cooler down the road.

Nice hp output.

So we all know that these kind of numbers are capable out of the GReddy turbo. Perhaps with that water/methanol injection kit, and the turboxs full exhaust system, some of us in the states can get to that level.

Here is a site that sells the radiator and hoses.

Have you thought of upgrading the electric fan to assist with cooling?

casue of the intercooler stealing some of the air away from the radiator, I would go with a larger core radiator, and a mix of more distilled water than antifreez, like 70/30 or something, maby with an addative like ice32, watter wetter, purple ice, ect.

I would also look at a different front end, something like the mazdaspeed that has larger inlets for the oil coolers as well as the radiator/intercooler.

Also being a brazil model, you should get the 2nd oil cooler, they tested it on best motoring (1 oil cooler vs 2) and found that it lowered temps on avg. 30* at track speeds, and 10-20* at normal city speeds.

Thanks for the replies, i am checking all those infos and i will let you know...

here is a video of the car on track. I was filming and a friend of mine (the owner of the WRX) was driving. First time he drove the car, he was driving kind of slow 10 sec slower per lap than i.

The reason his car is loud is due to the...... "open - catless 2 1/2" no catback - track exhaust for the car(just for track). "
I'm suprised it wasn't louder with no cat and no catback. I've started my car before with the cat and exhaust off and it was insanely loud.

the car was insanely loud... but in high revs it's a littlebit better. the worst was between 3~5000RPM. On Track it won't go under 6000RPM. we were running with closed windows.

Boosted guys, what else you did to control de temp. of the car? I need more ideas!

Thanks

Water injection, or spray intercooler? Turn your heater on, you'll burn up but I think it will help reduce the temps?

I'm not that familiar with the Unichip, but if it does anything like what the emanage does to fool the stock ecu into open loop, via altering the water temp signal then whenever you go under boost it tells the computer the water is cold and so I believe the PCM turns off the radiator fans. Not a good thing when you are under boost for extended periods.

Change the radiator you cant run in boost for extended periods the stock radiator is just one inch row switch for 1 1/2" All Aluminum from CL racing radiators. i run my booster car in the highway at 10 psig of booost for extended period with no overheating problems.

wire the cooling fans to a relay and switch so you can turn them on..It makes a big difference. The cooling fans don't seem to run much in this car??

I don't know how fast he's driving, but radiator fans are usually only helpful at relatively low speeds.

More ideas (other than those that have already been mentioned)? Make holes in your bumper and hood.

True...but the car never gets a chance to cool down between runs.

that does help when your not moving. at track speeds it doesnt make much of a difference.

on my miata, I had the 2 radator fans wired to run together (one is for the ac, one is for the radiator) when you wire them together they will both run, giving you twice the air flow. I also wired them to a switch so the car could control them, or I could.

bettween runs I would turn them on, pull the hood release (to give you that 1 inch of space and turn thr heater on full blast. It helps cool the car down quickly.

I've been debating about running a FMIC but still have the 8 run properly on the track. The cooling issues are such a concern with these engines. Maybe someone will need to release a V-mount type kit for our cars.
