well actually its a 305 1979 camaro to the wise guy lol... ne ways if i knew as much about rotarys as i do about other motors i wouldnt have even botherd asking but ya im just looking at around 350 its possible i know that but not without emptying your wallet lol

I'm unclear as to how pointing out the weight difference makes me a wise guy, but the F-body site lists the 1979 camaro weight @ ~3600lbs. So again, you need less motivation in your ~3000lb RX8.

That being said 350 is easily done on the stock Renesis block. look into a GT35 or 60-1 size turbo with a big hot side and you will have what you need. Then ignition, cooling, and engine management.

As RG said your costs will depend largely on how much of the work you can do, but either way you will spend a LOT less money adding power to your Renesis then doing a 20b swap.

Yes, but the reliability long term for a high hp 2-rotor Renesis is lower than a properly built 3-rotor at the same hp. That's just common sense. If you go for the same reliability you'll get much more tq/hp from the 3-rotor. So take your pick

for the amount of money a 20b swap costs, and you are going to compare HP to your SMB you may as well drop in an LSx. $.02

If you want good reliable power on the renesis what I would do:

1. good turbo kit--SFR would be my personal choice as its a top mount turbo with cobb accessport compatibility
2. complete E85 fuel conversion

true enough but, there are lots of LS swaps into RX7's that the owners report not having much impact on the things you are implying. I'm not going to bother looking up the weights of all the possible LS blocks but if there are many first hand accounts....it's probably accurate enough for this discussion.

has E85 started becoming more readily available outside the greater midwest?

Not sure; however I am in the midwest, lol.
E85 conversion is definitely on my to do list. For now I just run water/meth injection.

I personally wouldn't do it just for the limitations of availability of the fuel outside the midwest -- if that is still an issue. $.02

I live in the midwest also, which is why I don't know how available it is outside our little hole in humanity.

I just sometimes like to get out of here and wouldn't want to be limited by that.

yeah I hear ya.
I made the trip to DGRR last year to NC from IA and if I were to go again with an E85 conversion it may make things difficult. Although I can probably have another tune made for pump only gas and take it easy with it if E85 were not available.

fully dressed, the renesis (per RB) is 267.5lbs
fully dressed, the ls1, with pp+flywheel, is 497lbs. the auto version with a flex plate is 457lbs. that means the pp+flywheel add 50lbs? wtf. http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/288306

as a random aside, when looking for the weight of the ls1, i found some guy on ls1 tech saying a 3 rotor weighed over 700lbs....

Here in NY E85 is around. Not hard to find, but not everywhere.
Definitely have a dual tune, at least for Road trips etc. My .02

i would never sell my 8 i love it .. ive only seen a few places that sell e85 in houston but i never really looked around , probably will settle for a turbo but ive heard the renesis cant handle anything over 6 lbs of boost

That accusation is definitely false. There are a bunch of guys on here that have gone past 6 lbs. I think you should start reading some of the threads about turbocharging the 8 and know for yourself what it can do instead of hearing it from the mouths of people that don't really understand the Renesis.

yeah, you need to start doing some heavy-duty research, because i'm not even remotely interested in turbocharging my Renesis (turbocharging the Rx-8 is another story) and yet i know that that's bullshit!

I run 9 psi on the street. Sometimes I up it to 12psi. I am running water/meth injection though. It is a must on a turbocharged Renesis with pump gas IMO.

Solid 10 PSI, up to 13 PSI at upper rpm.
I can do this without methanol running. (I have a Snow stage 2 kit installed)
/Pump gas too!
