Charles,

OK.........................

I would advice you on my new changes,

After the waste gate installation I have plans to change the differential ratio or installing
aftermarket springs (looking for better traction)
In the future if I find a computer that can control ignition time I would buy it. I don't know
if Greddy it's going to offer and upgrade system that can control the ignition time, let's see what happen.........

Thanks,

Manuel

Manuel,

The traction issue will be fixable as soon as you decide what you want to do with the car, specifically. What I mean is that should you decide that you only want to drag race the car then you can easily change the rear link location points so as to keep the camber at 0 degrees throughout the entire range of compression. If you want to keep the handling characteristics of the car then compromises will have to be made in the traction department.

Am I to understand that the GReddy turbo kit is NOT controlling the ignition timing? I thought MazdaManiac told me he has a way to do that? Maybe I misunderstood what he meant. If I am wrong I just wasted money on an E-Manage.

well guys, I have 285s in the rear and my GReddy kit goes on Wednesday (supposdly).

I'll start to get some times for you ASAP - this is goin to be with just the GReddy kit - no exhaust or other mods other than my rims, sways and coilovers, so I'll try n provide dynos.

The emanage can control ignition time
but the emanage that came with the greddy kit for the RX-8 is not programmed to control ignition.............

If mazdamaniac can do it, please let me know........
I don't know if he buyed the ignition harness and reprogrammed his emanage.

Remember that the emanage on the RX-8 works plugged to the factory ECU.

To crack the factory map's I installed one of the Jeff map's on my car.....
When we open the software part that control ignition time all the values was on "0".

I was talking to a tuner and he explain me that the Renesis came with 4 ignition coil and
control ignition on thie engines is not the same as the 13B engines.
(the normal 13B use only 3 ). He also explain me that to control ignition time on rotary engines you need to control to types of ignition something they called "leading" and "trading" (sorry for any syntax error). I really don't know how this function and how they can control them but I wish that any one of the member of this forum know how to deal with this problem on the Rx-8.

Thanks,

Manuel

cretinx,

Good luck on your installation and post any dyno when you have them!

Manuel,

The terms are "leading" and "trailing" when referring to the spark plugs/ignition timing. From what I understand those who have been pursuing the ECU issues have said that they now discover that Mazda has the ECU programmed to eliminate the trailing plug altogether at high rpm's. What the numbers are, specifically, I don't know. We already know that Mazda flips the leading/trailing at idle and some very low rpm's.

Jeff Abrams has fabricated the harnesses necessary to hook the E-Man to the RX-8. He has also designed a circuit that allows the factory coils to interface with the E-Manage and keep the coils from overheating. Don't forget that he also spec'd out and installed his own custom turbo kit, which is why he is way ahead of everyone else on the maps. There are also a couple of other companies who have made the harnesses available. I am not sure but the price may be in the $150-$160 neighborhood. If Jeff finds himself to busy to sell me what I need from him I will be looking for those companies that offer the plug-in harnesses.

The similarity between the turbo and nitrous progress is that without modifying the factory ignition maps we are both stuck at 55-60 h.p. gains from these systems. From the flywheel back we will all be experiencing the same outcomes with regard to general h.p., e.t.'s, and the drivetrain's ability to deal with such upgrades. You turbo guys will also be testing the limits of the cooling system, too.

Let's all keep getting together and figuring out what works best on the damn RX-8!!

I did all that. I ordered a few things from MOHD and they are on backorder. Thanks, though.

Charles

I want to ask you with what tires and on what road quality did you achieve this time? We have talked a while back about your mods with pm. Now my car is modded like yours, but with no pullies and with the RP supercat.
I'm asking because I think I'm being fooled by my stock potenzas with stock springs/shocks I have for now. Road quality is not that good (at WOT going sideways at 2nd gear) so I'm desperate for traction.
By feathering the clutch at ~5000rpm the best I managed is 2.269 for 60', 9.428 for 1/8, 6.72 for 60mph and 14.49@97.2mph for 1/4mile...
What do you think?

Sergio

ps oh, and I lift my foot from the throttle while shifting, do you?

Use this formula to approximate 1/4mi times from a 1/8th mi slip:
(1/8th mi ET + .22) / .665
Plugging his 9.17 second 8th mi ET nets ~14.1@100-101mph but I'd wager after the 1/8th mi, since traction is no longer an issue and with 273RWHP it will probably pick up another tenth of a second there. In fact, i'd bet my house on it.

Anyways, RX8PR try to practice your launch at the track a little bit more and definetly run the factory 18s or if you can find some FD3S RX-7 (1993+) wheels, try those with some good street tires or drag radials on them. You're car is a low 13 second car with some good traction and nothing else. Good luck and keep practicing your launch at the track.

My car is on the shop rigth now, we spec to finish it on thursday afternoon.
If we do that I would try to run the car on the 1/8 mile track on the nigh.

My problem is launching I would practice more to see if I can low the 60 feet time.

Thank you for your support.
