adding turbo
okay, so after saving up money for awhile i have decided that i want to add a turbo to my rx8, the only thing holding me back is that i don't know much about them... at least for the 8, so i am asking for some opinions on what turbo to get (how much boost) and what precautions to take.... thanks

Most people say that adding a turbo isn't practical if this is your daily driver because it will shorten the engine life and may cause some issues if not tuned correctly. Based on what ive read, it's best to keep it below 10psi if reliability is a concern, but I'd also like to know more about adding a turbo to a DD rx8

let someone who has experience with it chime in

Just to be on a safe side, keeping your engine on a stock mode, your engine will last longer. Adding turbo's and such, will just minimize engine life. Don't get me wrong, it will add performance, but it will weaken it in the long run. Good luck with it anyway, to each, their own.

What I'm saying is that most of these people are experienced and know their 8's inside out, so even as a DD, so they know what to do if something goes wrong. It wouldn't be practical for the "average Joe" to install a turbo in his/her 8.
And how long is exactly is "thousands of miles"? Because I read that there are very few people, if any, that have had their engine last more than 50k with a turbo.
Everything I said above, I pulled right from this forum after hours of searching, so if it's wrong, then is there any point in directing people to the search button if the results are a bunch of threads with false information?

Okay..and does that go against anything that I said?

To make a turbo daily driver reliable you have to do everything right the first time (spend money) and stop playing with the car as mistakes are expensive.
What Turblown says is true too if you more than double the car's output and trash it around the corners but realistically what amount of power are you using when daily driving or cruising? 100\110hp? 150?
That's why i think that it's safe to say that it is usually the owner's fault if an engine bites the dust after going turbo.
Even if you had the money it would be wise to do a thorough check up to your car and see how the engine and ancillaries are doing.

Like I said previously.... there are many people who DD a turbo'd 8 (I am not one of them so I can't elaborate) with out any problems. why? because they have support mods and yes, they know the car inside and out.
