Any Recall Work Done After FI?

Hey, i don't think this topic has been covered yet, so here goes.

Has anyone with FI(Turbo) done any of the recalls?

Let's say the car has just the bolt-on from Greddy, E-manage Blue, all else stock.

Would you be able to complete any recall work from the dealer?

say:

3305G

Fuel Tank Issue

and

4206F

Emmsion Recall PCM update.?

I know that the

3405G

Lower Arm Ball Joint

is an ok one becuase the stock suspension was not modified.

or maybe not...there are many debates about the entire warrenty being voided and such.

so maybe FI guyz can chime in on this.

Thanks!!!

Don't do it. When I brought in my blown engine, they saw the turbo, they immediately sent in pictures of my engine with the turbo, and the warranty was "branded" So I have no warranty on my engine now. Even though it is back to stock.

Branded warranty still gets recalls though.

Yeah, but not engine work. You don't want them to brand you car because if you blow your engine you are screwed. If you blow your engine with the turbo, take it to another mechanic take off all your turbo stuff, then bring it into the dealership, and they will replace the engine under warranty. If it is branded you are screwed and will have to get the engine work done by yourself. You get the warranty work done, but in the meantime you just opened yourself up to a $5000 repair.

Or, instead of stealing the new engine, you could just accept that risk when you decide to put the turbo on.

I did. I bought my own new engine. But just informing people in the future of what you CAN do. Call it stealing if you like but when you get that bill for thousands of dollars, you can think about being honest Abe, or you can try to get a new engine.

I already made that choice. I paid for the engine and did the install (with MazdaManiac's help) myself.

BTW: I'll call it stealing because it is stealing.

I had modified my suspension and they did the 3405 G recall.
No problems.

And so did I. Just letting people know of their options. I'm not trying to be people's moral mommy.

There have been several failures of NA stock engines, with no modifications. Obviously when you put an aftermarket turbo on there you are adding a myriad of complexities and additional reasons an engine can fail, but you don't think tha Mazda might have a design, manufacturing flaw in the engine. Maybe that can be construed as stealing, or at least imcompetence. Would the failures have occured irregardless of the turboing of the engine, as has happened to several NA people.

As an aside, when I had my car picked up for towing when it blew the engine, the tow truck operator who picked up my car commented that this was the 3rd one he had picked up that month, he also mentioned that one of my IC hoses was cracking badly. When I asked him if the others were turboed he said he wasn't sure but did not think so. Then later when I was at my Mazda dealer, my service advisor said he had replaced the engines on "a few" RX8's I asked him were they turboed and he said no, mine was the first one he had seen with a turbo. He seemed almost non chalant about it, which doesn't inspire confidence in our engines...at least the 04's.

I went in for the latest PCM reflash, my dealer didn't hassle me. They even saw the catless midpipe and did not do the cat test.

I didn't see them take photos of the car or engine bay. If the engine goes, I will accept having to shell out the dough for fixing it. Like MadDog said, doing otherwise is scamming mazda.

Ferman Mazda in Tampa, FL.

I say just call up whatever local dealerships are in your area, ask if they have any problems doing the recall work on a turbocharged RX-8, if not, bring it in and be done with it.
