You should think about installing it yourself and then getting it tuned by the shop.It would save ya a bit of $ and you could spend some good guality time with your 8. :p

One thing you forgot was a gauge pod. That will run you about $400 for a good one.

area all those gauages necessary even if i stayed with the greddy map for a few months?
i understand boost gauge might be essential but what about other gauges and oil pan ect?
i'm kinda runnin short on budget and wanting to get the kit asap.
with the shortest budget , what can i eliminate from those lists other than BOV, and boost gauge? Thanx

My kit will be here wensday and me and my bro are installing it this weekend .... we are goin to take it some where to get tuned for sure .... also i made my own gauge pod ... i bout a duel piller pod (GM turck) and cut off the side and molded it with fiber glass to the piller and had it painted turned out well ... reason for the GM truck one is the import car is because it was way to small .....

Again sorry for the bad spelling ...

You can get a "universal" kit for a single standard gauge that mounts on top of the dash by simply drilling holes or using sticky double sided tape (sometimes). They also have a dual pod version (usually for the smaller 52 mm versions). Boost is essential, I would highly recommend an EGT, because there are times that the turbo is just running with low boost, just off idle & you do not notice it too much but it builds up heat just cruising along on the freeway (starting build boost as little as 3000 rpm).

You could definitely shave a few hundred dollars off of that, or at least postpone it. You probably don't need the EGT or AFR guage if you're not doing the tuning. You certainly don't need to buy a boost gauge that is that expensive. I ran a $50 Autometer in my FD for years and never had a problem with it. Now, it won't match your interior, and I've heard they don't stay accurate for all that long (mine did but whatever) but its a pretty easy part to upgrade later if you don't want to bite it all off at once. I'm pretty sure you don't have to get that upgraded oil pan either. I think most of the installs described on this board used the stock oil pan, and I don't think the catch can is a necessity either. That stuff is more along the nice-to-have rather than the must-have category.

My shop is charging me $5000 out the door for the kit and the install - this includes some serious time on the dyno - we'll see how it goes when the damned kit actually arrives (they say it keeps getting delayed or they can't get their hands on it or some **** - sounds like a load of BS but they already have half, and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt until the turbo's actually in).

I have a question. What work would need to be done to this kit (Greddy) when you need to get your yearly inspection passed?

No, as long as you have a gauge showing that your Air/Fuel ratio is good you are fine. The EGT really just shows you that without jumping up & down all the time. I will have both on my car soon (just have the boost & EGT right now).

I put my Turbo timer in the coin bin which is on top of the Trunk release. My boost gauge was custom installed into my airvent near the wiindow. I really don't want all my gauges showing. It will only draw alot of attention to theives. If you put your Greddy turbo timer there, then a Greddy boost controller will perfectly fit right underneath it. I plan to put the digital apexi A/F displays in my ash tray or in the over head glasses bin.

Sounds like a great price to me. I paid $3200 for the turbo when it first came out, and $1200 to install, which included the oil catch can. Acosta Motorsports did the install and I have never had any problems.

That is a phenomenal deal. The lowest prices for the turbo are in the low $2900's. So install for $600 is great. it is usually in the $1200 range.
