even if the GTO is faster than my boosted 8 in a straight line... i still wouldn't want it.
going fast in a straight line is pretty f'ing boring IMO

Please:

My whole point is to quantify improvement in real world numbers, not to flame the poor old goat. Apperently some of you are having difficulty with the shift and the launch.

May I point out that the flywheel inertia is proportional to the RPM squared!!!!

Therefore the same weight flywheel has 2.25 times the inertia at 9000 RPM as it did at 6000 RPM. Pushing the energy into that flywheel and getting it back out is a problem at the higher RPM's of the Renesis, causing the normally well behaved rear tires to smoke, and put your well earned horsepower up in it!!

I suggest a flywheel 1/2 the weight of a GTO or 350Z to compensate.

It's easier ( and MUCH cheaper it's about $700 for the rear end ) to change the final drive ( orsmaller tires in lieu of gearing ) to get a faster 0-60 or 1/4 mile than to do it with FI right now.

The flywheel inertia is almost insignificant compared to the other kinetic energies in the system - especially when you are already off the line. I did an energy analysis once that estimated ~0.05sec. gained in the 0-60 time by going with a lightened flywheel.

Thanks William! Oh, and the new exhaust makes a BIG difference. Also have to take into consideration that there has only been one person that has dragged his 8, and reported results. If I remember correctly, that was before the new exhaust, and his overall hp was less than a few others. I really don't want to get into another speculation war, but I think what I said before is attainable.

Just as I said. The car should be able to do it. Now get someone to prove it. It should be mandatory to post one's own slips or dynos before posting numbers.

Why don't you think Gtech is accurate? I would be willing to bet money it is accurate to within 0.1 seconds in 0-60. It is based on the same technology used by the aerospace industy to help fly their multimillion dollar projects. Have you ever heard of a gyro? Same idea there. All the Gtech does is measure the acceleration using a set of sensors and from that you can figure out anything else you want to know. Its simple physics.

I agree. My Gtech readings were within 5 hp of my true dyno readings both times...and my friends were within 3hp. The timing features weren't much of a help due to the fact that I would spin through the gears on the street with the old tires on it.

Why don't you go drag your car and post your times to back up your claims. Just make sure to trailer it back home since I don't think it has the ability to turn. We'll get Moostafa on the track too soon, he'll post his results, and we can compare time slips. sound like a plan?
First it was Camaros and mullets, now if you drive any domestic car with 300 HP you have a mullet. Look a 300 Crank HP RX-8 is not going to take down a 400 Crank HP GTO. I am looking at getting an RX-8 maybe (to keep me out of trouble)

But a 300 WHEEL HP RX8 just might

I wouldn't be so sure about that...800 lbs is a HUGE weight difference. Could be a driver's race...

please don't p0st mis-informed comments like this. If your post would be put up on a GTO board, we would have a couple dozen time slips from STOCK GTO's posted all over the place that are faster then any turbo renesis RX8 just to mock this board... either learn more about non-Mazda cars or stop posting ---- like that

try learning (and keep in mind thats a stock car, stock tires, and not changing tire pressures for a better launch... real owners will be faster then that after some experimentaion)

I've driven the GTO. It's not a slouch. My only complaint about the car was its brakes - not confidence inspiring. I haven't driven or been in an FI RX-8, but I'd bet a GTO is a handful for one. Not to mention how easy it is to get more power out of the LS blocks.

...and i challenge any of those GTO owners to bring their boats to a track event or autocross... and see what happens when they can't brake or steer.
Fast acceleration is only one aspect of racing.

^ Because we can. We have FI. Therefore, we have both rapid acceleration AND handling. Those of us with FI don't have to rely on the "take 'em to the twisties" argument anymore to compensate for the terrible straight-line performance of the stock 8. Everyone wants better acceleration - autocrossers included.

this thread is entirely about straightline acceleration... you'd get pwn3d at a drag strip

Stop being such a hater. If you woke up tomorrow and found a GReddy turbo miraculously installed on your 8, you know damn well you'd be like pigs in ****.

Lets stop going back and forth. Doesn't one of our forum members have a GTO or knows someone with one. Lets arrange it so that they can meet at the track. I'll contribute $10.00 towards the entry fee (for the RX8 driver of course )
