Bought a Midpipe

Ordered a midpipe earlier today. Looking forward to getting it, and I'm definitely anxious to here it. I just hope it's not too loud. I've heard it on NA setups before in videos, but we'll see how it sounds with this set up. JW, could a bad cat cause a rough idle?? I know it's typical problems of the E-manage to cause this, but I'm wondering if the cat is bad if it could be related to that as well. I would think not b/c it's not like much fuel or anything is being added at idle, since my idle afr is between 13.8 and 14.5 ususally, with lean spikes every now and then. Any input helps.

If you didn't think it was too loud on NA, you'll be pleased on a turbo setup.
With the turbo, the midpipe will sound less loud.

How big of a noise difference is a midpipe and "just a pipe"?

That all a midpipe is.."just a pipe." No cat, no resonator to break up the sound waves.

yea, thats what i mean. I knew it would be quieter on a turbo'd setup. That's why I didn't wanna spend the extra money for the pipe w/ the resonator. Should be here soon.

Ok then its gonna sound so damn loud and the drone is killing the ears. Why does the exhaust sound less with a turbo setup?

because the turbo uses the air-flow of the exhaust to spin spin sugar

You have a big chunk of metal between the engine & the exhaust. Not sure on the B&B exhaust, but on the Borla & Greddy, an addition of the midpipe made it really, really loud.

Though get ready for the CEL from the O2 sensor going haywire.

Ok, that just blew my mind.

I tried my single outlet exaust recently. It was WAYYYY to loud with my NA set up, even with the OE cat. On the turbo, it sounded great! Loudish, but great. The only reason I took it back off was that I have a backfire issue that I am working on (I think it is the BOV 'cause when I disconnected it, the backfires went away. That is postburn for you quitar.)

It was lots of fun driving around, then letting off the gas and POW-POW-POW-POW-POW-POW. All godfather like and all. Definite cop-magnet (sorry farva). However, NA the exhaust was so loud it made every plastic piece in my car buzz. Sounded like I was being attacked by hornets.

So yeah. Turbo makes things LOTS quieter.

This is true because your cat will last very long when it is not on the car.

it works a little better when you elude, rather than state.

Haha, I was gonna say I bet so when it' sitting in the garage! Hehe, don't worry Carbon, I'm not a cop. I just got the name from Super Troopers. Farva was a tool and he was funny. I'm getting the interceptor too, so backfires will go away in 2 or 3 weeks. But, until then, I let off partial throttle and it's like u said, straight up Godfather.

i drove a catless rx8 for 1500 miles with no check engine light. if the epa knew how "loose" mazda was with the catalyst efficiency monitor, they'd probably shut them down.

funny how it is different.

i could go no more than ~ 15miles with a resonated midepipe before a cel....and i could reset it at will.

kinda depends on what driving type it is for some things. 1500 miles is no excuse for the CEL not to turn on, but if you're doing very short trips around town, i could see it not running the monitor. i forget the exact conditions in which that particular monitor runs though. it's been a while since the obd2 class.
