. More conservative if anything .
Will also be doing some other minor tweaks :

*improving back clearance on compressor housing.
*Re-shaping side exhaust ports for a sharper pulse.
*Returning to stock siamese sleeve
*Altering engine mount for clearance on intake tube.
*Undecided about if to go to solid corner seals ..... the modified RX8 seals seem to be doing the job.

add to this :
*scolloping of rotors for side ports

slash128 08-27-2016 02:47 PM

Ahh I did get distracted by the alternate conversation  so did you get solid corners or just the apex?

Edit: n/m, I see them in my thread :)

Yeah I have the solids . Still a little uncertain about using them after reading up on the 7 forum .

slash128 08-27-2016 04:07 PM

It seems to be a religious discussion. Have you found any images or data posted from a high mileage motor with solid corners?

Brettus 08-27-2016 04:12 PM

No , nothing like that . I'm leaning towards using them seeing as i've had a good run with the apex seals

slash128 08-27-2016 04:20 PM

Yeah, and most everything negative I come across is regarding the Atkins recessed solid corners. So far I'm happy with mine, tho it's still early and really haven't pushed it yet. I need to do a proper comp test now that I've got over 1K miles and seemingly good vac. Ultimately several thousand high boost miles and a tear down will tell the story. For better or worse we are pioneering with these :)

So what's your timeline? What's the current status? And where are the pics? Dammit man, I'm jonesin here!!! :D:

Brettus 08-27-2016 05:02 PM

Rotating assembly went away to be balanced last week . Hopeful bridgeporting will get done this week and engine put back together soon after . x-fingers.
If i don't get it back early next week , it will be another month before I can refit the engine :( .... Stupid overseas holidays !!!!

Haven't got much to take pics of ....

slash128 08-27-2016 05:14 PM

Good luck man, looking forward to your speedy success :icon_tup: my car was down 6 weeks and 1 day and it sucked.

Thanks Slash . Yeah I have been waiting patiently for things to happen and getting very frustrated at how long it takes . Patience is not my strong point.

I'm really excited to get this next build done and tested because I believe I now know what is wrong and what is right about what I've done so far . This next build puts all that knowledge together .
Adding the bridgeport is an unknown but I'm happy to give it a try .
Hoping to get both improved spool and better top end - while retaining street manners and mileage .

One day , in the future , this thread might get back on track ..........

BigBadChris 09-01-2016 11:28 PM

Even off topic it's still better than my build thread! Nothing but tumbleweed and crickets chirping over there.

yomomspimp06 09-02-2016 04:49 AM

I can't contain my laughter

Just wondering, are you using water injection, or is one of the goals of this build to not use injection?

hoopes123 09-14-2016 12:27 PM

I am a new Rx-8 owner and i have a 2005 with the Shinka interior. I know very little about cars and their engines. But is this setup affordable? Is it reliable and does not wear the engine out in any way? and finally is this easy to install.

Jedi54 09-14-2016 12:44 PM

hoopes:
  • Affordable? - Cost is relative but some will spend more to attain this setup than they did in acquiring a used 2004 RX8
  • Reliable: yes, it will reliably make your car go faster. till you push it too far and then it gets VERY expensive.
  • Engine wear: not really. It (like all turbo setups) will simply blow your motor if you're not very careful and don't know what you're doing.
  • Ease of install: if you're not very mechanically inclined, we don't recommend going Forced Induction (turbo, SC, etc)

hope that helps but most of these type of questions can be answered in our New Members subforum. :)

one easy rule to always remember.
you can have Fast, Cheap, and Reliable.
but only 2 out of 3.
choose wisely.
