Yep, mostly here for the Brettus updates, a lot of crickets chirping elsewhere on the site (including my garage lol).

Are you gonna log the exhaust manifold pressure vs boost? Would be interesting to compare with previous results.

Oh, and did I mention that you should definitely run it up to redline then crank up the boost to 13psi? No point doing tomorrow what can be done today - nothings gonna change!

Brettus 07-25-2018 03:08 PM

My E85 pump is out of action ATM so that's slowed things down a bit !

Brettus 07-26-2018 03:41 PM

10 psi log ....pretty much the same as earlier setups . Full power comes on a little earlier maybe.

Are you changing any of the fuel lines when going e85? Will it still be one line like the std system?

Brettus 07-29-2018 12:07 AM

Will run E50 rather than E85 to try keep the fuel system upgrades to a minimum .

rotarenvy 07-29-2018 01:08 AM

sorry missread your post about running e50 just can't wait for more updates.

Hmm... Is this estimate FWHP or WHP?

Just thinking back to Ve again, and how that must change under FI, but we do not know how much.
- We have around 100% VE NA(14.65 PSI absolute) at 4750RPM.
- Power is 135FWHP at this RPM, ref Racing Beat dyno
- Your setup shows 215FWHP(?) at 10 PSI(=24.65 absolute)

135HP x ( 24.65/14.65) = 227HP
227/215 = 94% VE at 10PSI and 4750RPM

If this is a valid thought, and we do it for other RPMs as well, it would be valuable data for future compressor evaluations, would it not....?

Would say your system is operating very good by looking at this math....

EDIT: For educational reasons: I was mixing up units here. 1 Atmosphere = 14.696 PSI = 1.013 Bar. So 14.65 in above calculation should be 14.67. I believed 1Bar was 1 Atm, but not exactly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_(unit)

That V/D is supposed to be wheel hp but I think there are way too many variables here to get anything accurate for VE . V/D itself is less accurate than a dyno as a comparison tool.

Definitively. I was more looking at how to estimate when/if we(you:)) get more accurate and reliable data.

Brettus 07-31-2018 04:12 AM

I've seen pretty much exactly the same numbers from VD as a real dyno but you have to get everything right to achieve that.

Even if w/in +/- 5% accuracy..., still great #s at 10 psi. Solid job, Brett.

When you think about it, Bretts development has been phenomenal. Started out at 333whp@14PSI on "a slightly optimistic dyno", if memory serves me right. Now we are at the same power level @10PSI, that's massive gains in relatively short time. And sharing of findings/theories, that opens up for further understanding and development, usually there will come good ideas now and then, by doing it this way.

And the best of all, a friendly tone. If you ask/suggest in a friendly tone, that is:)

AAaF, Agreed: Been around since '06, and Brett's contributions to our platform span hardware..., best practices..., and tuning leading not only to improved HP / Trq gains per psi, but also w/ good DD curves. His contributions to the culture have helped move the tone, i.e. at least of Major HP Upgrades, to a more positive, investigative knowledge-based sharing space.

Awe Shucks ...Thanks fellas !

I hope I have something significant to share soon !

Update?

Brettus 08-11-2018 03:05 PM

The E85 pump near me is having issues so that has been hampering my progress . It seems like it's not gunna get fixed any time soon. There is a pump about 50 miles away so I'm going to head up there later this week and get some. Haven't booked the dyno yet but it should be soon .

When I do get on the dyno , I'll be taking it up to around the 400whp mark initially and will see if there is any improvement over what I've done in the past . Will be looking at boost pressure vs whp . With previous designs I always started to see a poor return (extra boost vs extra hp) from about 13psi on . If I don't see any improvement on this I'll be aborting any attempt to go higher .

Thanks jcb .... been testing over last few days and I have to say i'm not feeling overly confident there is any improvement .... running a screamer pipe should help a bit . Fingers xd !

Brettus 08-16-2018 03:23 PM

Update : went to dyno yesterday . We took it up to 14psi and 400whp and could see no improvement over my previous attempt plus it seemed to be dropping away earlier in the rpm range so we called it a day. Only positive was a slight improvement in spool up which I had noticed already. So yeah I'm disappointed but at least i still can enjoy driving the car.

rotarenvy 08-16-2018 06:45 PM

slightly disappointing. Were there any secret squirrel mods or was it just the screamer pipe and e50?

Brettus 08-16-2018 06:54 PM

There were some exhaust port timing mods that seem to have had more negative than positive effect ...similar effect to what the bridgeport had .

400whp out of a renesis still pretty awesome. Is it like a too much flow threshold?
