Had a great day at 'Impulsive' rotary only event today.
Engine got well and truly thrashed (running 11psi).
Did lots of roll racing and she held up really well. Won more races than I lost............ and these weren't slow cars.
Noticed I got a jump on most of the cars from the quick spoolup in 2nd but once I got into 3rd she tended to fade against the high horsepower cars.
Got this one video . Sorry about the quality , hope there will be some others.
Very close race ... can't remember what the car was though .

Better video, I raced most of the cars in the above sequence , lost three I think and won the rest ...but this is same race as above :
My race starts at 1.00
Currently 1000kms in on a road trip around the South Island . I'm without my handbrake so good chance to put on some kms and give her some jandal !
So far it's been freakin' AWESOME !
pics to come ....
Woolshed outside Foxton Surrounded on the Cook Straight ferry Nelson Lakes Lake Ianthe Turning onto highway near Franz Joseph Franz Joseph Glacier in distance Fox Glacier car park One of the dozens on one lane bridges Bruce Bay One lane One lane Haast pass Haast Pass Blue Pools carpark Lake Hawera I think this might be the most awesome road in the world ! Crown range Queenstown to Wanaka. Crown range looking towards Queenstown.
Relaxing after another hard day behind the wheel. Queenstown to Glenorchy road is absolutely stunning. Too much traffic to have fun though. Lake Wakatipu Wakatipu again Just doing my bit for Tourism NZ
Pulled into this motorsport track just out of Cromwell for a look through the museum
Lo and behold ............. the only car buzzing around the track was an RX8.
Met this cool couple (Lloyd and Tania) and before you know it I was in the car as a passenger, doing laps!
The circuit is an absolute masterpiece with corners taken to reproduce those from famous tracks around the world.
Got this shot later in the day with Mt Cook in the background. Had a slow drive back to Christchurch as the car developed a strange noise under boost. Suspect something is up with an intake pipe. Will investigate tomorrow.
Looks like a nice trip around the South Island. Are you doing the trip by yourself? Have you seen many other RX8's on the road while you've been doing your trip?
Have fun
Taken near Nin's Bin (great fush N chups + crayfish) on Kaikoura coast.
Arrived home last night. An extra 3000Kms put on the clock. Apart from the loose bolts mentioned above, the car performed flawlessly. A major reason for doing the trip was to make sure the manifold/turbo/engine combo performed without issue under sustained driving conditions. As far as I'm concerned it gets a big tick on that one.

Had L. with me for CHCH to Hamilton leg ...otherwise was on my own so got a chance to really enjoy some awesome roads with very little traffic on them. Didn't see any other RX8 (or other rotas for that matter) apart from a couple parked in Christchurch.
Did another event this weekend . Mad Mike's 'Summer Bash'. Only entered in the 'cruise' portion of the event which is supposed to be driving around the track at moderate speeds. However this tends to devolve into multiple impromptu roll races with whoever wants to take you on.
So ......... I got to roll race with all manner of performance car. I have to admit that I took the back seats out, plus, it was only me in the car vs most other cars had two or more occupants. That being said ... the turbo Renesis pwned ...lol
Hoping to get video (taken from the other car) of mine (at 12psi) vs an FD running 16psi and 440ish whp with a passenger ..... pretty even race but went to the FD by maybe half a car.
Spent Two and a half hrs on track doing this .... engine is fine , gearbox is ..............dead !
My car : Stock block Renesis running 12psi on 98Ron pump gas with 5L of premixed ethanol added . Back seats removed. APV ports restricted (to reduce top end power and help stock engine last) . Approx. 360whp as measured by VD. I didn't hit the gas till I heard his turbo spool....
His Car : FD RX7 with full cut bridgeportd engine running 16psi (dynoed at 430+whp IIRC) on pump gas 98Ron . Also had a passenger and a big woofer in the back.
I took my sick 5 spd gearbox in to get rebuilt and this was the main culprit . Both input shaft and output shaft needed to be replaced due to this roller bearing collapse and subsequent grinding into both inner and outer bearing surfaces. Apparently this is a very common failure point for these gearboxes. For reference .... noisy in neutral,1st,2nd and 3rd . Plus the 2-3 shift was dodgy which he said is a result of the shaft movement rather than a syncro issue.
Learnt quite a bit . Apparently the 5 speed box for the RX8 has quite a few internal differences to the RX7 box. Input shaft , syncro rings , ratios to name a few.
Rebuilt box is back with me now so I have work to do ................
New bearings , input and output shaft , 4th gear syncro . Cost a bit but looking forward to having a decent gearbox in the turbo car at last.
