cant decide, turbo, procarger, or super
ok so im looking to make a all around good race car for street and track. i already have intake, cat delete, tokico rex springs and lowering kit, the next big move i want to make is fi but i cant decide what to put my money into, it seems to me like the rx8 big problem is low end power, but people seem to be more drawn to the turbo witch wont help then the lowend power, so i have bin leaning towards the supercharger but i would like other peoples opp. befor i buy any thing. is there any one that has tried both and likes one over the other? it would be nice to know your thoughts befor i spend 4-6g on a part and not like it

the turbo kits offer up the much needed torque that the rx8 lacks and are in a general sense have a cheaper startup cost then the supercharger kits.
The 2 supercharger kits that are built for the rx8 (pettit and hymee) are the 2 best built kits out for the 8 (no one will argue this) but cost 6500 (pettit) and 7400 (hymee)
I prefer supers but there are about a million threads on all of this so I would suggest you use the search feature and find out what works for you

^ kindof unnecessary. supercharger is more reliable...and you have power on throughout the whole rpm band. however most turbo's now will give you more peak hp.. but personally i think the supercharger would be a better investment. especially for a street driven car, more throttle response = more fun.

it's all up to teh owner, the choice....what ever he likes to have.....

im sorry i shouldn't have said more reliable. what i meant is that a supercharger is easier to maintain. and seriously which is more important to you? how much money do you have to throw at it? is it a DD or a track car?

I'd say try and get some test drives in peoples cars (even just as a passenger, and get their owner feedback)
I have a Pettit supercharger, and have ridden in 2 Greddy Turbo cars. I like mine better, its been trouble free for a year now, and its awesome.
One of the Greddy owners I met on a track day said he had loads of issues with his, (mainly with heat) and mine made more power and was a nicer ride, which was good to hear too!

Super chargers will hurt mpgs from what I understand. I could be wrong? I am far from an expert. Turbos can improve it... but also can lessen it. Depends on boost level and such. It's really up to you. Do your research and decide what is more important. Turbos will not increase torque as much as a SC, which is something 8's lack in compared to most cars.
I am wondering about harm to your engine. Does either have potential to harm your engine more than the other?

not call the cops but you may just get a timeout.
i believe we have a thread that shows all the dynos of all the rx8 FI kits.
edit:
here it is, because it being stickied to the top of the forum makes it hard to find.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/dyno-comparison-rx-8-turbo-supercharger-etc-115447/
go ahead and look at the torque curves and horsepower lines. consider price. then decide which is best for you.
one of my problems with the pettit supercharger is that it is down about 50lbs/ft of torque compared to kits of a similar price range. gt3071r turbo, 300whp/250lbs/ft. sfr, 326wp, 244lbs/ft. mazsport, 344whp/240lbs/ft. pettit, 188lbs/ft. granted, this image is old as hell and all of these figures have crept up but the ratios remain the same. the pettit stage II has around 270-280whp and 200lbs/ft. thats still quite a bit down from turbo kits.
that said.. i have never ONCE seen a pettit supercharger for sale on the forums. and as far as i can recall, i dont seem to remember any issues with them either.

your into the more illegal racing and your telling me you are going to go w/ the s/c setup?? not downing the s/c but common we all know the turbo kits out there *when running right* are far superior when talking about drag racing.. stage 2 s/c not even 300 whp the mm upgrade is running around what 330 w/ more tq... esmeril turbo kit has now passed 400 whp ... if you have the money to spend i would not understand why you would want a s/c over the turbo, im not for sure where you race but where i used to when i was hard into the illegal racing 280 300 whp isnt ****....

lulz.
I love how all the N/A peeps or n00bs comment on FI.
This thread has so much fail in it.
It doesn't matter if you go SC or turbo. The reliability lies on how much money you can spend and the quality of tune.

Read - then ask intelligent questions.
Or spend $20-40 bucks and buy some books and educate yourself..... I even LISTED some of the good ones in the thread!!!
Or you could be really trick and get an exhaust driven - centrifical supercharger.... I heard all the fast Porsches have those.....
