Looks like I guessed correctly.

4.77 gears + huge turbo = death to M3s and vettes

come on man... where's the video of all this?? you couldn't shift, turn and do all that while filming with one hand? =P

Are you doing a dyno before you get the ignition upgrade? Would it be possible to dyno with your stock coil set up and then switch em out to dyno with the ignition upgrade? i only ask because the person you're going to dyno for seems like a friend and is supportive.

aw man... i'm getting my kit installed april 24th........ you're thread makes each day seem like FOREVER lol.

Static.....you think the gears are what is giving it the extra umph? The only thing different about our setup is the gears. I have stock gears. Hmmmmm I wonder if that is something I should get......hows first gear tho? With the flywheel and gear setup.....pretty short?

Flyboi....hahaha I feel ya man...how do you think i feel? Mine is in the shop as we speak! GRRRRRRR

I agree, but where would one get a set? I've only seen 4.77 aftermarket gears, are you going to offer a set of 4.10?

That is a strictly NA mod. You do not need or want it.

Yeah, for the forum I'm going to dyno with stock coils so everyone can see what it will put down before I upgrade.

I would do a before and after, but usually I like to take my time and work alone when I'm putting stuff in for the first time. When I have people with me or watching me when I'm doing something new the first time I get careless and tend to make silly mistakes. After I do it once its no problem, but that first time I need to be alone for maximum results. The coil upgrade I will be doing I will need to cut off my stock connectors, so I want to try and minimize errors on this.

Most definitely the gear change helped.

Well, here are my thoughts on the 4.77 gears:

If you do a lot of highway driving, make sure your injector staging is set correctly, or else you will drain gas like nobody's business the second your car goes over 72 mph.

Highway driving on the rx8 at 65 mph with the turbo is pretty comparable to me with the N/A gear change as far as gas mileage.

First and second gear on the streets are great! Gives me no reason to go into boost during daily drive type activity. Works great, drives great, its nice.

First and second gear in a performance driving application= you need to make sure you are using good tires! I have found first and second to have a rediculous amount of torque, pretty comparable to 300hp awd vehicles I have ridden in. But if your tires are bad and the road is slick you will not have traction.

I can spin 3rd if I really step on it.

If your looking to build an ultra fast rx8, then 4.77 gears are for you.

There are no ifs-ands-or buts about it.

4.77 gears will accelerate your car faster than lower gears. That is of course, depending on how good you are at shifting.

If you want all out no holds barred power, then 4.77 gears are for you!

Coupled with a huge turbo, makes staying in the max power output zone of the turbo easy. I get great acceleration on daily drive, and extreme acceleration in performance situations.

And to prove it. I will accept all renesis powered rx8 challengers. Any turbo, any nitrous, any supercharger. Off the line, roll from 20, 30, 40. Any surface. I'm game.

hopefully when our April 19th meet comes up I can post some vids of this setup VS. a stock car, a greddy out of the box setup, and a greddy + INTx setup.

Sure it has better acceleration, but you are going to be out of gear more than if you had properly sized gears. By your same argument we could say a 6.00 gearing would have even more acceleration than your 4.77. So why stop at 4.7?

The new RX-8 has the same gear ratio, and even for NA people are questioning how wise that is.

It would be nice to hit up the local 1/4 track and see what times you can get with your kit as is. That will give us an idea of what the RX8 with the Esmeril kit set up like yours. Make sure you post the timesheets!!

You answered your own question. Because its a ford 8.8 rear end & those are used all the time. Not many people run RX8 rear ends in their cars, minus their RX8s..

Track day pics, If only my gauge pod wouldn't have come off (notice in first picture how it's sideways) At least I found some glue that works! sticks on great now, doesn't rattle.

If you look carefully at the picture, the hump on the bottom on the left is the wastegate, and the small hose looking thing in the center is some vacuum tube that I used to re-route the radiator overflow tube. If its going to blow off antifreeze it will exit in the middle of the bottom of the car, instead of directly on the radiator fans This hose is attached to the center main crossmember under the engine (bar looking thing)

Speedbumps are a no-no when you are lowered with this kit.

Right now its on mazdaspeed springs and shocks, with 245/40/18 azenis.
