Food for thought

A friend of myne just bought the stage 2 kit for his R32. I thought it was interesting for a couple of reasons.

1. VW people don't seem to have a problem spending $10k on a turbo kit. Where as the rx8 community has a huge problem with $7k.

2. They get 100hp increase out of 5psi

3. This car has been out less time than the rx8 and look at all the stuff available for it.

sure.
#1 one of the major reasons for me to buy my 8 was the money. so CHEAP. naturally, i won't have 9K or 10K to upgrade a turbo in one year of time. (just got my car this summer)
#2
I can get around 100hp increase in 6psi too. if I spend like 9K only on the turbo kit.
#3
well. our engines are completely different from their tedious piston inlines.
so developing turbos for our engine will take a huge amount of time( of course money)

1. the community had huge problems with what was offered for $7k. There's plenty of interest in the PTP kit, and it looks like it's going to run about that. No price on Hymee's, RP's, or Pettit's superchargers yet, but there's huge interest those as well.

2. 5psi means nothing. airflow at 5psi for one turbo does not equal airflow at 5psi for a different turbo. And I've seen LS1's make 130ish extra hp at 5psi with a supercharger, heck at 8psi they can gain over 200. It's all in the flow.

3. the VR6 engine and it's ecu have been out quite a while. The R32 just requires different tuning and turbo sizing. There's plenty of FI options for the 8 coming in the next year. I'm willing to bet the R32 doesn't have the fitment and ecu issues that the 8 has either.
