Man that sucker gets hot. I disconnected it last night after the engine cooled off completely, and the engine stumbled trying to start. It just wanted to die it seems. Plugged it back in and it fired right up.

lol. You can't just unplug it! The pump gets no power that way.
You need to "short" the two fuel pump relays together.

There are essentially 3 failure modes observed with this pump assembly:

1)Loss of flow during normal operation after extended highway cruising
2)Loss of flow during relatively high-G left-hand turns
3)Loss of flow during normal operation after 60k miles or more
Could anyone tell me if any of these failure modes will cause a CEL to light (esp. #1). I am having power loss issues without a CEL.

Thanks.

None will cause a CEL directly.

Just ordered the Walbro from BHR

If I ever find time to install it we'll see if it makes nailing down my tune any easier.

Why wouldn't you just cut the two wires going into the resistor and connect them together? This should remove the resistance and allow full voltage to the pump regardless of what the PCM attempts to perform.

came across this doing research for the future FI project, it should address everything discussed here:

Because I like not having extra energized circuits.

Yeah, that was posted earlier in the other fuel pump thread.
Good info.

Look at that: The Walbro puts out nearly as much fuel as the coveted "Supra" pump in a package that is half the size and using half the current.

In another thread it was mentioned about fuel hoses blowing off with this mod - could just have been the install .
What happens to fuel pressure with this pump installed ?

Externally, the regulated pressure is about the same, +/- 10 PSI.

You should see at least 60 PSI in the rail with a stock pump (anything under that fails the siphon function). I think the highest I've seen with the modded pump is 71 PSI.

The only "blown off hose" involved with this is the pressure relief on the siphon assembly and that is addressed in the instructions in this thread.

Does anyone know what the maximum flow is that a good OE pump can maintain at this pressure?

Yeah - The Denso version (2009 +) is 110 IIRC.

Which is, for all practical intents and purposes, not really an "upgrade".
Its kinda just fulfilling the promise of the original pump design.

Will a new/good earlier pump maintain the 155L rating @ 43psig?

Even brand new pumps don't flow that much.
