270 is a good result with that setup but it does seem to be at the high end of what people normally run .
Considering that the turbo is only supposed to flow about 220g/s efficiently at 7psi and you need over 270g/s to make 270whp , I'd still say 270whp is pushing it past its design parameters .

ty for gathering all of this data. it is really making it easy to plan out a solid and stable turbo setup.

So about this vdi valve, where and how do I make it inoperative?

It is under the upper intake manifold right above the fuel rail. Check out the shop manual for removing injectors and you will see it. You can actually get the upper intake manifold off without removing the coolant line if you slide it out of the way. To disable it unhook the hose from the actuator and block up the hose and the actuator.

You can get to the VDI hose without taking the manifold off . Just reach through from where the air pump valve is mounted . Lot easier for me because I don't have the air pump valve anymore .
BTW the VDI disconnect is a very minor improvement . Not worth a lot of dicking around for .

I am really debating whether or not to use this kit. I was really sold on the Esmeril kit, but the greddy kit is cheaper, and I am unconcerned with pushing out the boost lvls that chris is, my car is a DD, it is impractical for me and I need reliability. I am using the insurance policy of throwing w/m from snow performance regardless of boost pressure. It makes me feel more at ease. I am debating larger injectors so I can push 9-12 psi but again, I am willing to be humble, I would just really love to hit the 300 whp mark or a little over and call it good. My car is currently in the shop at Deep Stage (Deepstagemotorsports.net). I think for a DD this is not a bad kit, it just isnt very well put together, and my consideration is whether I want to spend money on a kit that is not complete despite it being the most inexpensive. Definitely chime in please, all I have him doing right now is throwing my esmeril ignition on while I am deployed and he is standing by for more. You guys are the most knowledgable so I would love input. In fact, I am more than willing to be a test dummy (dummy said loosely) for something that has not been tried but in the realm of practical and reliable DD. Unrelated question btw, I have the AP exhaust with midpipe, will the turbo quiet that down at all?

Whatever you do you will end up throwing more money at it to get what you want so get used to that .
The Greddy kit with an upgraded compressor and done properly is awesome and all you could want for in a DD performance wise .
Go for the 50trim wheel from BNR rather than the 60-1 as the bigger wheel does not seem to get the results one would expect.

I am going to give this midpipe a chance with the turbo, but seriously, it is annoyingly loud...I thought I would never say that but after driving for a couple hours on the freeway at night I stop enjoying its delicious and vicious sound and simply suffer through the drive hoping that I will get to my destination sooner. The other option would be ear plugs I guess...

As for the turbo kit, It is cheaper which is appealing but I see what you mean, it is a constant project that never ends.

I am almost considering SC, I was reading on here somewhere that the engine bay temps are lower, is this true? and if so is it enough to warrant jumping ship on the Turbo's? Because I am shooting for 300HP-ish the SC is definitely a contender....damnit this is so hard...I think I need a second Rx8

If you had a top mount turbo and it was not well sheilded then yes . The Greddy is low mount so no - not true .

You need to understand that a 300whp turbo car is a MUCH quicker car than a 300whp SC car before you make that decision . Check out the dynos here and ask questions if you can't see what I mean .

Added MAF chart for wastegate mod at various BC settings .
Note how BC has nil effect after 5500 rpm .........

The fact that changing boost control settings nets the same up top no matter what.... I guess more like it cant control the w/g anymore at those high rpms.

The way I'm interpretting it is that the wastegate is being pushed open at high rpms regarless of the BC?

Correct - it's the whole internal wastegate setup that is extremely hard to control once you start pushing things . The mod i did is very effective at eliminating this issue - just wish a few more people would try it .....

360g/s equates to around 320whp (on my setup). If you think that is weak you need to come over here to NZ and take a ride

Speaking of that, I read how to do it but I need to have the turbo in hand because I'm not getting it

Expect a PM over the weekend

I actually plan on doing the arm mod this weekend Brett, and I'm gonna take a stab at installing the boost controller into my ashtray but we'll see how that one goes; I'm hoping to get all the mechanical plumbing done for the BC (easy peasy) but by golly I'm inexperienced with electrical wiring....

If worst comes to worst expect a PM or Google Talk message from me
