...thanks for your opinion. I hope this is a joke, if not then can you do better? I despise posts like these because all you're doing is ruining any chance of respect you'll get on the board. If you don't like the way he did the ports, why not suggest something rather than straight up insulting him? Thanks for playing.

MemoryFab is showing $650 for their header. It looks like the Knight Sport design.

LOL i just talked to those guys on the phone. he originally said they made them, then he changed the story to say they ordered them. on top of that, he's the "technical advisor" and couldn't even tell me if the center runner is divided or not.

$600 is a lot of money for 4 hp

yea, it takes soooooo much work to make these things right. i can do an rx7 motor in roughly a day, but the renesis is almost a day per iron...not quite, but you get the idea of how much it takes.

we're having a special on the website right now for the whole "package", but the porting alone will be somewhere between $400-600, depending on if the exhaust gets cut and re-welded or not. (small vs. large porting)

here's just part of what i took out of the secondary port... keep in mind the port shape is virtually the same as stock, so all this is coming from the runner.

^ speaking of which, i think the secondary runners may be flawed. they start out very small, and actually increase in size. i'm thinking this slows down the velocity of the air and may take away from the torque in the 4-6k range. what i did on this one was open up the runner and did my best to give it just a bit of a venturi effect towards the outlet... i may be wrong on this, but my "theory" is this will not only increase the flow (from very serious back cutting and short-turn radius work), but increase the velocity and help out with the torque in that area.

like i said, i'll admit when i'm wrong, but i think that may help. we'll test 'er out this time around.

and here's my buddies 20b i'm doing for him--just for fun. the ports need one final once-over for cleanliness, but they're about done.

i should have the final porting pics from the renesis later today or tomorrow.

No kidding. Someone almost earned a forum violation for trolling / antagonizing (which may have ended in banning if we decided it was just a troll, esp. with such a low post number at the time). Luckily the "it's a joke" had already been posted...

a few things i'd like more clarification on though:
1) intake closing time. i can understand the adverse effect on a naturally aspirated engine, but i think it would help a turbocharged engine (once the turbo gets spoolin' anyway). in any reguard, i only extended them about 1mm of actual removal. the rest was just the bevel.

2) i'm unclear as to whether you're in favor of removing the sleeve from the intermediate housing. did you mean to remove it, and machine a new one that is fully divided? the runners are just tiny tiny...i'm wondering if it might help to just get rid of the center all together. (keep in mind it's only on this one turbocharged engine).

thanks again for the good advice. exactly the kind of constructive critisism i was hoping for. major props!!
porting.... Upfront I will say I have not ported a rotary engine yet. All my experience comes from porting two stroke race bikes (formula 2 yamaha's mostly).

That center port will have to remain divided or else you will get the exhaust pulse from one chamber exhaling pushing into the other chamber which will fill the other full of inert exhaust gas. it will raise compression and cause loss of power and possibly detonation all at the same time. Norton raced rotary motorcycles in the early 90's and they found that the rotary wants absolutly no backpressure in the exhaust. they even went to megaphone style exhaust to increase scavenging. reversionary expansion chambers were tried as well with no good effect.

Hence my waiting for a supercharger vs. a turbo charger.

if you could figure the gas volume per exhaust pulse and the duration, and build a header to use the exhaust gas velocity from one chamber to the nest to increase scavenging, you may be able to overcome the problem of the small exhaust ports.

intake closing time. Longer durations will work for abnormally aspirated engines, but they will reduce compression which will be good to effectivly reduce the compression ratio to prevent detonation under boost but they will kill any off boost bottom end. Hence another nod towards a supercharger vs. a turbo charger.

time to go visiting junkyards I think and get a rotary to play with.

you are a braver soul than I to pull a motor from a good car before playing with a junkyard or crate motor
