japan8, with the porting, good exhaust, and the ecu tuning, we should have no problem getting a solid 50 untouchable hp, and hopefully it'll be in the 60+ range.

i'm really hoping for more, but i wanna keep it realistic. wait'll the mecca-porting gets done on the exhaust!!! i think that'll be the clencher.

AND
i really am going to invest in some flow testing equipment. i'm starting a huge fd buildup that i should make good money on, so i'll dedicate the profit from that into the flowbench.

like rg says, if you're not measuring, you're guessing. it's easy to get more flow than stock, but with such limited space to work with (internally) in these engines, that'll be the difference between a good port job and a great one.

yea, we're happy with what we have so far, but we'll be even more happy if we can improve it! :D

I won't know until I try. Even if it were possible to get those power levels n/a, we won't get the average power or low end torque that a turbo has. My personal goal is to add more to the midrange than just peak numbers. I want more drivability and this is where you are at most of the time.

...which is what I suspected your answer would be. I figured that N/A wouldn't have the low-end of a turbo, but with a beefier mid-range than stock and a big bang after that... more daily drivablility and more bang when you're "driving like you stole it." I hope.

the big advantage is n/a's don't blow up as much as turbos. yea, proper tuning and yaddi yaddi, but they're just more forgiving.

3 things i forgot-
1) uber thanks to snap-on for the killer deal on the parts!!!
2) i forgot i have to check out a car tomorrow, so it'll probably be saturday before it runs.
3) anyone interested in templates? i'm not going to sell them yet, but if there's enough interest, i'll pay for a banner advertisement and start in on that.

that's not an rx8 thing...the fd's are like that too. i was just spacin' out.

and i think i posted the 3 rotor pics before. that thing is going to be just sick and wrong with the sequentials... we may even pop them off later down the road and hybrid-ize them and go for 550-600 whp with spoolup around 2200rpm :D

Exactly! Does anyone have any info on portwork? This is what I'm waiting for... don't want a turbo, nitrous or supercharger.

Or is this another ecu issue, where any gains realized through porting will be arrested by the electronics? I want my 300 NA hp!

Good luck on 300NA w/o a 3 rotor.

Porting on these cars will get you good gains if you can tune it properly but 300 is gonna be a stretch. The thing is, you open the ports to flow more air, but eventually you'll reach a point where you just can't flow anymore air NA.

I pretty clearly recall numbers around 280hp for the Renesis back before the car hit production. I'd say that 280-300 is entirely reasonable taking proper ECU, fuel, and other supporting mods into account... but I'm not exactly a rotary scientist

Which is why I want to see some damn movement in this thread! Come on, lets get portin'!

^^^
280hp was also the voluntary Japanese limit when the RX-Evolv concept was released. In other words, 280 NA in the Renesis was a pie in the sky number for marketing purposes.

It also had a higher redline. (10,000rpm IIRC)

Hmm.. might have been 10,500.. that sounds a bit familiar. Raising the redline wouldn't be a bad thing necessarily either, although I believe I read sometihng about certain flywheels not being rated for rpm's that high.. not interested in "needing" a scattershield.

So someone please tell me.. what is the highest amount of NA power anyone has gotten out of a 13B? I'm having a hard time swallowing the notion that the 8's 13B is *the most powerful*. And if it's NOT the case, then we DO have room to grow
