Greddy Turbo in Australia

I am 2 weeks away from getting the first kit into Australia , and have a couple of Questions.

I will initially install the kit and monitor it and basically see how we are going .

Then I want to run 9psi .

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSE Help me !!!

Whats the minimum I need?? . What are the neccesary requirements ??

Do I really need to toss out the stock exhaust and Cat?

I know a lot of people are buying unneccesary additions .

This is my feelings in order of preferance

1- BOV ( which type ) I'm thinking Greddy tp R / RS

2- Boost controler . Brands?? profec E-01

3- Guages (which ones)

4- Cat, exhaust and intake

If I can get away with any ( if not all ) of these that would be awesome!! Things here in OZ are really expensive!!

Waiting with baited breath

Thanx heaps

Dave

I know your excitement Ciao! I just ordered my Turbo also (will have it Wednesday Wooooohoooooooo!), and I want to get all the right stuff! I feel pretty lost!!!

1) As far as the GReddy BOV...Adrian1 gave me this link to a clip of his type RS, I think this is the one for me.
http://www.***-internet.com/adrian-...%20rs%20BOV.wmv

and of course here is philodox's type S:
http://66.116.187.145/downloads/rx8revitup.wmv

I like them both, but am leaning toward the RS cause it's newer. As far as sound, I hope I can tune it to be somewhere in the middle of type S and RS, cause I like it loud!

2) I'm not really interested in the boost controler now, so I'm not sure.

3) Defi BF gauges definatels will match the interrior of the RX-8 perfectly. Here is another link to Adrian1's car:
http://www.***-internet.com/adrian-1.../greddy/92.JPG

Expensive, but I'll probably use this one. If not, I will probably just get GReddy gauges.

4) It might be best to stick to your stock cat for now (assuming you haven't replaced it). There seems to be a backfiring problem with some of the highflow cats. I want to remove my cat and go straight-through, but Fanman told me the backfiring problem may be worse than the highflow. I may get the B&B or RP cat-less just to test it out. I'll definatelty post the results.

The intake that comes with the Turbo seems to be the most compatible so far.

A larger diameter exhaust will probably work best with Turbo. Borla and Racing Beat seem to be a pretty good size.
I have the GReddy SP2, it's a tad bit smaller, but I think it will be fine.

I have removed my CAT and have a Free flow exhaust system. It runs really loud and the back fire sound is even worse. Its sounds really good on the city dirve cause you and strech the gears and hear her roar but on a long drive get that droning sound comming into the car..we had to add a resonator and sound damping the car and improve the sound system to improve the ride and prevent the droning into the car...and the fumes do really smell from the the no CAT system...dam sulphor....we have sulphor in the fuel here in South Africa...how ever the 8 is more responsive without the CAT...it feels like u have supercharger on board and the acceleration is constant and instant...when u press down she lifts up and runs...
CAT on or of....hard choice....

Do you think the stock exhaust can handle 9psi though?

Would it be too restrictive?

What would be the intercooler's limitations?

The profec-01 looks like the go in terms of electronic boost controling, but would the Turbosmart E-boost suffice?

Just that the Profec is quite large.

Is it true that the profec corresponds with the E manage , and does it give Data like AFR's and engine diagnostics ??

Or do I need the CANscan,or some other thing hanging off my dash??

Ciao,

Good to know that one aussie is gonna do the turbo kit soon and I cannot wait to see how it turns out mate!

Also want to know who will be tuning the E-manage for ya when you have the kit on? And wouldn't it be better to have a boost controller to set the boost constantly at the set pressure from the beginning?

cheers,

richie

backpressure is the enemy--do something with the exhaust
the greedy intercooler seems to be fine for much higher boost than it's being used for, but if you're in doubt, get a bigger core.
fuel is good-- get some bigger secondaries if you're going to up the boost.
accurate gauges are better than fancy gauges
whatever bov you want...people tend to choose them more on sound-rather than function
control the boost however you want. a profec b will work just fine. why pay for options you're not going to use?
tuning is everything! get a tuner that knows what he's doing!!!!!!!

Dave,

1. BOV - Get either a Type S or Type RS. Whichever is cheaper. The amount of boost we are running a Type R BOV is complete overkill.
2. Boost Controller - A simple one is the Greddy Type S BC, or like others have said the E01. I have the Apexi unit, & it might be a little too intelligent/complex for this setup.
3. Gauges - whichever ones tickle your fancy. Go to the vendor websites or to ones like www.i-m-racing.com & take a look at the different types. Whichever ones you are comfortable with. greddy, HKS, Defi, Autometer, etc. are all very good companies.
4. Cat, Exhaust, Intake - The kit comes with an intake. The way the kit is designed, you can not use another standard (not turboed) air intake, so save your money. Do not get an hi-flow cat or test(straight) pipe unless you are willing to tune the kit. The standard greddy map is made to run with the stock cat, so unless you tune it out you will run into the backfire issue. As for cats, they are all not made to specifically run with the turbo. Whether you get Racing Beat, or Greddy, or Borla, etc. they are all quite good & will give you similar hp gains. Just go with the one you think sounds the best & you like the looks the best. I will tell you that the turbo quiets the exhaust down quite a bit.

If you are looking at 9 psi, you will need a good boost controller, & some fuel injectors to replace your stock 380 cc secondaries (may also want to replace your primary 2's as well). I have seen people run about 7.5/8 psi on the stock fuel system, without boost controller, so you have to decide if that extra 1-1.5 lbs. is worth it for you. Down the road look at an ACT clutch replacement. May also want to get spark plugs that are 1 heat range colder, for safety sake. I personally am thinking when all is said & done I might look at 8 psi for my street trim & about 10 psi for my "hi-boost" setting with a few other things I will be putting on my car.

Fanman,, Do I really need larger injectors.
The reason I chose 9psi is coz is was the most the factory injectors would handel ??

I basically want to get the most out of it shy of pulling bits off it , or adding bits to it

Ciao

I have heard the stock injectors max out right around 7.5/8 psi. If you want to try & push 9 psi go for it. Nobody has done that on stock injectors..I think.
