So with having the upgraded turbo from BNR, should I remove my blocking plate? Or do I leave it in still? I have read and still havent gotten an answer as to what is best with an upgraded turbo.

I would say no.... but then again I never messed with that plate much; I figured it was a bandaid and I didn't wanna deal with it.

But the large 3071R can easily hold 10 PSI to redline with no dips - so a larger flowing turbo should do fine.

Kane,

So right now you run your car WITHOUT the plate, and still hold 10psi to redline?

Hell yeah - 9 PSI on just the wastegate....

The turbo will flow it - the TD06 would not.... thus the plate - to keep the boost pressure consistant; especially with a MAP based EMS like the Greddy Emanage

what Kane said .

Although I still run a partially blocked port with an upgraded Greddy .
You are going to have to do something with the wastegate to get full boost . Is it still the stock actuator ?

Can you explain more on how I would run a partially blocked port? The turbo I have should flow up to 58 lbs/min. Also, Bryan ported the wastegate, etc. He said it should be good to flow about twice as much from stock.

Which turbo?
And at what Pr will it push that much air?

With that much flow I think you are better to just remove the plate altogether .

The fact that the wastegate will flow more is not the issue - it is the weak actuator spring that will allow the wastegate to open that will prevent you getting full boost .

Have a read of this .... https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/getting-most-out-your-greddy-turbo-without-breaking-bank-172542/

It is the 60-1 Trim I believe... BNR built it. There is a thread with compressor maps somewhere.

Its a 60-1 compressor wheel. Here is the link that Bryan from BNR posted about it...

I have yet to maximize the turbo's full potential because its not tuned yet, but hopefully soon it will tuned.

I will have to see about if the Blitz I Color Boost Controller will allow to me set boost at RPM. I havent really messed with it much. Considering that I only had my car tuned by MM with the stock greddy turbo for 2 weeks. Then I upgraded up the BNR turbo shortly thereafter. So if my Boost Controller doesnt allow me to set at RPM, what other wastegate option could I go with to get full boost?

I think BNR changed the wastegate didn't he?

I hope....

Edit: He ports for more wastegate surface area and higher psi.

I figured that would actually make the issue worse . More surface area on the wastgate with same strength spring on the actuator means wastegate opens more easily from exhaust backpressure .
However he also clipped the turbine so that could lead to lower pressures on the wastegate as well . Until Cab trys it we wont really know ....

MM correct me if i'm wrong here- but if you are tuned to run at 6psi on the AP then you can run it to 10psi so long as you monitor AFRs and back off if you see it going lean .

wow ... very interesting ... thanks a lot Brettus, but would setting the APV to open at 9900 (with your redline at 9100) be the same as installing that blockoff plate?

Added compressor chart to first post to further illustrate the benefit of doing this ....

production I am not sure but you can still get the kit new. But it doesn't really make sense to buy it new.

Missing Plate

I bought a used kit from a dude for 900 with seized turbo and it is missing the intake mani block off plate my question is, does anyone know here I could purchase one or if i should just try fabricating one out of a plate of aluminium?
Also any recommendations on a good rebuild kit?

You could just disable the APV via your reflashing software .
