Cool Help regarding oil metering pump!

Hello guys,

I need to know how the oil metering pump works and what funtion do the small clear plastic tubes perform. What pressure are they subjected to? I ask because I had installed heat shielding to this part of the engine due to its close vicinity with the manifold and it had done well untill I bumped the boost up to 9 psi today and the extra heat damaged one if these tubes because the heat shield had moved slightly and one of the tubes was exposed for a brief moment. The tube melted(about a 1/2" length close to the metering pump) and sealed itself(its not leaking) and I obiously need to replace it and I was wandering what it is subjected to under normal conditions so I can make a decision about what to replace it with. Needless to sayI'll obviously place some extra shielding and secure it in a better way to prevent this in the future. The car is stopped untill I get this fixed. Thanks in advance guys.

chris,

i am going with the simple answer here... the tubes provide the oil for the apex seals to seal....

it is kinda very important.... till you get them fixed... stick 8 ox of syn 2 stroke oil into the gas tank before fill up.. and make sure it is done before the dyno...

this is very important..

I'm in the process of finishing my downpipe and I have Richard Sohn's OMP adapter, making realestate down there a premium. There is roughly 1/8" clearance between my downpipe and the OMP, so this is what I'll most likely end up doing. I think PTP was talking about replacing these with new lines, you might be able to score a set from them.
How are these tubes held on? I saw a picture and it appears that there are 4 flow-thru bolts but that the plastic lines are held on to these with small metal clamps. I was thinking of using plastic tubing like the one included with oil pressure gages and just doing a better job of insulating this area. It had held up fine untill I raised the boost up and did a few long runs at WOT and only because the shield I had made moved down exposing the plastic tube furthest forward. If I were to use stainless lines, how would I go about connecting them. Also, these tubes go from the OMP to where on the engine? Is it below the intake manifold? Thanks for the help.

Hmmm I am very curious. I keep seeing use 2 stroke oil in tank, So many arguments over dino over synth, even RG who seems to be very wise, disconnected his omp in a rx7 and adds 2 stroke oil "correct me if I'm wrong" which negates any advantages of using dino or synth in the c-case and using it for the OMP.
While I am a firm believer of synth oils, No SCOOTER I ever owned, 350 yamaha,500 kaw,750 kaw ever said to put 4 cycle oil in the injection tk "carbon city" lol.
So for the benefit of the rx8 coming to my town, Which is the best way to go? separate tk? premix only? or take my chances and go with what mazda sent us. My new rx8 is in your hands. a lot of knowledge here, just hard to pick thru.

GTAW where did you buy that OMP adapter? I haven't been able to find it anywhere (I used Google).

What the hell would a MOP adapter do?

Edit: never mind. Now I see.

the adapter makes it so the pump can draw oil from a separate tank (via hose connected to its input nipple) vice from the 'crankcase'

I use synthetic for the sake of my bearings and because I like the durability of it at high temperatures. I have have been using an oil metering pump adaptor that installs between the OMP and the front cover. It keeps the OMP working but instead of pulling oil from the oil pan it pulls from a reservoir that is filled with 2 stroke oil. Due to some reconfiguration in the engine bay right now, the stock OMP is running as intended and I still use RP. I will go back to the 2 stroke later after I get the engine bay where I want it.

Now that this is finally available for the Renesis, every RX-8 owner should consider getting it. No more need to premix and no more worry about your oil level going down. For those scared that synthetic may actually cause worse carbon buildup (how I have no idea!), this negates those fears as well.
