I think it may be the dwell... but am unsure.

Driving from a flat surface to an extreme uphill with BC settings at 10 PSI to redline and the same PPO2 tune I've been running for about 3-4 months.... I hear a very loud misfire followed by a catastrophic banging sound (uh-oh).... I let off the throttle and my vacuum is all over the place and I'm boosting 10 PSI to maintain 60MPH uphill..... well ****; there goes the motor. I happened to be logging at the time; which was nice.
That sucks to hear, but I guess it has a happy ending which is nice. Best of luck with the rebuild to getting it back on the road again.

So did you figure out what the root cause was for the constant misfires? Or is that still up in the air?

Didn't he address it?

Now - for the first ever hand built, ceramic sealed; GT3071R turbo-ed, ported Renesis engine to show it's stuff!!!!!!
Anyway this thread is the confirmation that "**** happens", Kane is one of the few guys that has a really well installed\tuned car so his case is just bad luck and shows, in the end, that a turbo 8 can be reliable provided that the right love is put into it

It was the dwell; running factory dwell when your pushing 3071 kind of power on the BHR coils is a no no.

If not the dwell (which we now know needs to be adjusted for FI); then one of the wire terminals may have been bad - Ray can confirm or deny when he gets out here (they all feel fine to me) - every BHR car that I've upped the dwell on has had no misfres.... even at stupid rich AFR's.

The plugs are 8 trailing and FD leading. All plugs had less than 5000 miles on them.

PS Erick; what color did you guys end up doing? the pics didn't make it to my i[phone for some reason.

I just want to chime in here related to the misfires. Charles I haven't had constant ones but I did have 2 very loud ones over a period of the last 3-4 months. If my memory serves me right the first was within the 1st month after install of the BHR coils and the second one, the next month. It sounded loud like someone shot a gun in the car, but I didn't feel anything was going in the engine.

I'm a bit hard of hearing so in my racing days I developed a very good feel from vibrations, even the slightest ones and can easily conclude from them if something went wrong. So far I got nadda during the misfires in regards to noting anything going bad, but just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Something else I just thought of, I don't think it occurred after I installed the new spark plugs. The coils were in the car which had 20k miles on it with the old plugs on it that came with the car I got from the dealer at 19k, so who knows how old they could of been. It could possibly of been that the older plugs weren't working efficiently as they should of been with the new BHR coil kit.

Sorry if I missed it, but was the engine ceramic coated for color? Or for purpose? I know you stated you are running ceramic seals, and I was under the impression that ceramic seals tend to wear out stock housings like mad unless they were treated to be ceramic too.

I must have missed it. And no I was only curious about the ones that were Turbocharged, I was never insinuating that the other 280 kits did the same. You did that on your own.

The reason I ask is I had experienced that exact same thing 2 years ago, and was curious what the solution for HIM was.

Stop labeling as me something I am not, it was an honest inquiry. Move on for the sake of not turning another thread to 10 pages of crap.

Ceramic Seals are a lot easier on the housings. Check out www.nrsrotorsports.com for some good info.
